AMSynth, Calf monosynth and more! :)

What other apps and distros do you use to round out your studio?

I can certainly install it and try it. It's frustrating because everything was working fine a few days ago, I haven't changed anything in any settings, neither in Jack nor in Yoshimi. (This was part of my thinking when I started the thread about never updating once things are working well... there's always the risk something that works will suddenly not work anymore.)

I'll let you know as soon as I try QMidiRoute. (I imagine it's in the KX repos?)

QMidiRoute is in the standard Ubuntu repos. But do any other softsynths work?

All the other synths work fine. Well, ghostess worked fine but now whysynth and hexter don't produce sound either..

I'll install qmr as soon as I get a chance..

I ran qmidiroute. It was showing I was on channel 4, I have no idea how I got on that channel though. Even though I have stuff sitting on the keyboard controls, it'd take several control clicks to get me moved to a different channel. I hope it isn't a glitch somewhere in thekeyboard.. And I don't remember doing anything to change channels with any softsynths, either.

But now everything's working fine again, back to channel 1. (Thanks for telling me about qmidiroute, AutoStatic! It should be included in the repos! It's a wonderful little tool to have around!)

There's also kmidimon, but that's kinda buggy.

and err, qmidiroute is in the repos...
Thanks falkTX. (What I meant was that it should be installed rather than have to install it, but that's ok. My problem is that sometimes I need things that I don't know exist. :) )

I also learned 2 other things from this experience: remember that the input meter helps one to know if midi or audio is the real problem, and 2) when midi isn't always working, check the external keyboard channel setting! :D

What is baffling me is how I got onto channel 4.....

Falk,
Nick did an upgrade of amsynth, and I was able to download it to a different PC, but not on my KX one.. Any suggestions?

Thanks Falk, I got the update. :D

This synth just keeps getting better! ;)

Bank 5: done! Here: http://ubuntuone.com/086RLWaRsZra15j6ro4iLT

That's about 600 sounds. (bank 4 has some repeats in it)

Some of the sounds are very similar; but I never thought I'd be discovering so many sonic capabilites from this thing. Today I was able to create a Wurlizer emulation, and a fretless bass. --Probably could be perfected a bit, but very nice indeed.

The other thing I haven't tested too much yet: running multiple instances together. amSynth does this just fine-- yesterday I had 4 instances going, with different pitch bends, etc. Very nice. And 4 instances means 8 oscillators, 4 filters, 4 LFOs... 8)

More sounds for amSynth!! :D

Here is Bank 6: http://ubuntuone.com/56YhPNcm5g6mA2y7EyuIZL

So to summarize: Banks 1-4 are in the current version. However, Bank 4 contains only 35 new sounds, which are numbers 1-35. (The rest of Bank 4 is repeats of Bank 3.)

Banks 5 and 6 are not in the current version, but downloadable on this thread. (Bank 6 completed up to "Regal8" as of this moment.)

Hope they inspire! :)

It's part of the Calf plugins pack. So install Calf and it should include Calf Monosynth.

Hi Guys,

In the last few days I've committed a slew of minor tweaks to the amsynth code, and it's now very close to being ready for release - so let me know if there are any outstanding issues!

Right now briandc's banks 1 - 4 are included with it. I will most likely update this with the latest banks too, unless packagers feel banks should be kept out of the amsynth tarball?
