The rolling banks have been updated again, so if you have the newer release of amSynth, you should be able to hear the different filters and semitone detunings in many of the sounds in Bank 3.

Hope they inspire! :)

Just added about 17 new sounds to bank 3.

Nick added more great stuff to amSynth, for those who are following development!!

And, I've added more stuff to Bank 3..

Well the Holidays are coming closer so hopefully I can finally work out some new stuff that hopefully includes some of your marvelous work.

I can't wait to hear it! :) I always enjoy your works, AutoStatic! ;)

"Marvelous" is a bit exaggerated though.... :D

Well, I could use an euphemism for "marvelous work" like "loads of banks with awesome sounds!" ;)

Thanks.. I just wanted to kind of "widen" the showcase of presets. There were so few in the initial version, at first I didn't even bother with it. But one day I started tweaking knobs a bit.. and I started accumulating some rather usable sounds. Some of them I have really been inspired by; my hope is that others will appreciate this synth more, and maybe add their own.

In addition, Nick has been working a lot on it too. Since I started, he's added: 12-note semitone detuning; saw-up waveform in the LFO; the filter now has 12/24dB lowpass, highpass and bandpass; mono/legato function; DSSI plugin capability; and just the other day: adjustable pitchbend (1 octave). Wow!! --It goes without saying, that most of these new sounds are in large part, a consequence of all his additions.

Who knows what'll be the next addition!..... :)

Anyway, I hope the sounds inspire you and others. That's the real reward of it all.

I'm curious to hear which sounds you like the best (and why..).

Each synth has its own personality. Just like Zynaddsubfx has its own "sound" to it, or a DX7 has its own sound; or a Moog. And amSynth is no different in this regard.
Sometimes I try to make sounds that emulate natural instruments. And then I realize that the synth IS its own instrument. And amSynth shines in certain areas in particular. Some people like strange, wobbly, shrieking effects. I wasn't so interested in that. What I wanted was to see what types of "playable" sounds amSynth could obtain, and the spectrum it could reach.
Banks 3 and 4 have been able to reach a new spectrum, thanks to the addition of the other filter types, and the larger detune capabilities. So now it has a wider spectrum of possibilities. (I also realize that some of the sounds should be "refined" a bit. I guess that's one of the next tasks..)

So with more presets to listen to, people have a better picture of the "character" of amSynth. And it's a character that I really like. More than many other softsynths I've heard.

Did anyone here update amSynth and end up with the old version without the new additions? I did! Yikes!

How do I get the new version back??

How so? please explain (I did update amsynth recently for KXStudio).
I got an indicator for updating amSynth, and the version that installed is the old version. I see in my var/cache/archives that there are all the other versions, so I imagine there's a way to force a re-install of a previous version...?

The newer version was never able to open in the menu, only in the terminal. The old version opened in the menu.

I thought Nick had put the old version back online for some reason, but it looks like maybe a KX update changed something instead...

I'm a bit confused here...

previous version was 1.3.0 + git backports
new version is 1.3.2 stable

hm, I think I see the issue, the previous version was not labelled correctly... (it should have been 1.3.2 + git something)

I'll update amsynth to git version again.
falk,
remember that the version I'm following is not in the standard repositories, but here.

In fact, I couldn't remove the old version of amsynth because it says that dssi-amsynth and the kxstudio plugins depend on that old version.
