GOOD NEWS!
Nick is currently making some additions to amSynth! It now includes mono/legato control, as well as portamento! Yeah!

You can find the newer version by adding the repository to your system that's listed here:
http://code.google.com/p/amsynth/
Add the repo, update your packages, then install amsynth.
I think more additions are on the way!

I made 2 128-sound banks from the 8 smaller banks posted here earlier. Much easier to use:
http://ubuntuone.com/7lB6LuYtZRMqQF2CKHwMCB
http://ubuntuone.com/1JgUqTNt947TSfR8bdlLwZ
These are now the same as banks 1 and 2 posted earlier, they replaced the smaller files.

Here's the start of Bank 3 for amSynth:

It contains only about 40 patches so far..

Hi,
I am considering building an amsynth package for AV Linux, briandc would you mind if I packaged your banks as well? That way the package would install the synth itself with the banks like Yoshimi does.

Same question here but then regarding a banks package for the KXStudio Music repository.

Great, thanks.
I've hit a snag with compilation most likely due to my older gtk2 libs, I've posted a bug report at the google code page so hopefully the dev can help me out, if so I'll roll up a package as soon as I can, thanks for all your work on the preset banks and sharing them.

If that was the GTK build error, then it should now be fixed
Do you have any idea about how to package up the extra banks in a usable way, though?
The way amsynth is right now, switching banks involves using a file selection dialog which is pretty clunky. What we really need is a bank selection drop-down along with a directory that can hold multiple banks (e.g. /usr/share/amsynth/banks) - sound good?
Are there any other linux synths I should look to as an example of how this should be done?

Hi nixx
Great! thanks very much for fixing the GTK problem, I simply haven't had time to get back to it yet. As far as the banks I was considering just putting a folder in /usr/local/share/amsynth with them since this is similar what Yoshimi does but I haven't actually tried that yet. I'll get it built, packaged and mess around with it later today. As far as what other synths to model the preset selection after I'm not sure personally to be honest

Let me know if there's anything I could do to to ease packaging.
P.S. I there is a Unbutu PPA for amsynth... not sure if that's of any help or compatible with AVLinux though.

Gee, thanks!
I think I need to focus on some of the more "traditional" sounds sooner or later.. brasses, woodwinds...
-For now, I've been immersing myself in synthy stuff, which I like the best.
Hope they're useful and inspiring!
