There is a nice promotion going on here for an Acer netbook with 16GB SSD. Now I re-read the "tiny pc" thread and the reservations about this type of pc's. But my application is a bit different, I would like to replace my aging DAT with it.
Idea is to use the netbook as a portable stereo recorder. Just an UBS stick for audio (the acer doesn't have line-in) and a batterybox for the mics (a couple of electret lavalier clips). Add an high speed SD card for the data. This would make a package that isn't larger than my DAT. It has a bit less features: no SPDIF, no phantom. But also some advantages: no tape, easy to transfer to pc, less conspicious, ability to take notes.
It isn't going to run Ardour, no need for that in this setup either, no midi, no synths.
Anything I looked over? Someone has some experience using it like this?
netbook replacing a DAT?

Re: netbook replacing a DAT?
yeah that would be a good use for it, if you can get a small usb soundcard, say something like tascam us-128 to work with it, that would give you phantom and other line-in etc...
i've also been thinking a netbook would be really good to use for djing, too small a screen to do anything else but bigger screen than any cd deck so would be ideal for that i think.
