hi everyone! I'm so excited and happy i found this place! :D a friend introduced me to one of the Linux Distros the other day, Ubuntu. i have for a long time now wanted to start making music but could never find any open source software until i heard about LMMS. I'm kinda on a tight budget so LMMS is perfect. anyways i signed up for here cause i know almost nothing about making music on the computer, whenever i read up on anything they always use so many confusing terms and i don't know what their talking about, but i hope that as soon as i get things set up on my computer i can just play around with it until i get it, but its the setting up i am having a hard time with, I'll go into that later in a different thread. actually to anyone who wants to reply to this can you tell me what forum to go to for how to get LMMS set up and questions about Wine, Jack, and things like that? just point me in the right direction cause i am not sure which forum to go to.

anyways a little bit about me and how i got into music making. my favorite kind of music is electronic, and favorite artist is Owl City. i actually discovered the electronic music genre when i first saw a reactable at a museum (Museum of Science and Industry). at first i didn't know what it was until i looked it up. when i heard how it sounded i was like "oh wow that's amazing! i want one!" but of course i then saw the price tag, oh well maybe someday they'll make one that won't break the bank lol, right now their only for public use i think. but thats basically how i got into electronic music, after that i listened to a lot of trance, i love trance and and ever since then i have wanted to make that kind of music. when i later found out about Owl City i was even more inspired to make music. of course i probably won't become famous or anything but i just know i want to make music, electronic music in particular but i will probably make other kinds as well. i did get to play around with LMMS a bit before it stopped working and from what i saw i loved it.

well that's a little bit of background on how i got into electronic music and what has inspired me to start. i am a complete newbie but i am sure with practice i will get it. i can't wait to meet everyone and get advice for this, and who knows? maybe someday i will know enough to give advice.

Hey, Karm:

I'm a newbie, too and welcome to the forums. What distribution are you planning on using? If you already have Ubuntu installed, here's a guide I found on how to set it up to run the studio tools: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Ubunt ... reparation; I'm currently following it on my desktop and hopefully won't brick my computer for the twenty-gazillionth time. :)

And what kind of Graphics card do you have? I'm new to using Linux for music but have a wide range of experience with various distributions over the last five years.

--Best Regards,
Brandon

hi guys, sorry for the late reply

hi Karm thanks for the welcome.

@Draygera it looks like your replying to Karm but from the post it seems like its to me so i will reply. i looked at the link, it looks useful and maybe i will do that but i am not used to writing commands as i have never needed to do that but i can try i am sure it will be ok if i go by the directions. I'm not sure if this is the name of the graphics card but on a sticker on my laptop (which is an HP Notebook 64 bit btw) it says "ATI Radeon HD 4200 Graphics with up to 128 MB display cache memory"

anyways thanks guys for the welcome.
