Software for organizing huge collection of field recordings

What other apps and distros do you use to round out your studio?

Software for organizing huge collection of field recordings

Post by audunpoi »

Hi all. I'm a field/nature recordist and my collection has somewhat gotten out of control. I need some tools to organize it better. There's two things I'm looking for.
1. A script that would make a folder for each date taken from the file's date stamp and rename the file to date.
2. A media player that is also a tagger, and has a waveform display with navigation.

Any help appreciated.

Do you have any experience with (shell) scripting? Should be pretty doable.

No, I don't have much experience in shell scripting. I like the commandline but I don't have much knowledge. I found some scripts that should do almost what I wanted, but they all needed some modification. I tried to modify them but that only broke them. I don't know the syntax. So I was hoping someone could direct me to something that's ready to use. I've seen examples for imagemagik to sort photos but couldn't make them work either. As for a player with waveform display I found nulloy http://nulloy.com/. It would be perfect but I can't see any option for tagging files.
