Hi.. I just wanted to know whether installing Debian Etch with a RT-Kernel is nearly the same than installing 64Studio with regards to the system configuration.
I am aware that 64Studio comes with a variety of audio applications ready to use.. but actually it is not a problem to install them on a Debian Etch.
Also, I understand that configuring an RT-kernel under Debian Etch, by patching and compiling the kernel source leaves a system just as good as 64Studio does with regards to the kernel.
My question is whether 64Studio comes with extra system tunning that makes it more suitable for audio tasks. I mean specific configuration of rc scripts, cron,... and other stuff in /etc...

I use debian sid. But yes, you do need some extra configuration apart from an RT kernel of your own:
- rtirq script to elevate priority of certain IRQ thread processes (requires RT kernel)
- PAM security stuff (audio group accessing RT prio privileges, does not require RT kernel)
- maybe some extra HD tuning, CPU freq stuff, etc.
