A brief introduction

Post by fakepop »

Greetings,

A quick word to introduce myself. I am a Vancouver (Canada) resident and have been playing/recording music as a hobby for many years. I truly enjoy the freedom - and also often the challenges - of FLOSS.

My work is developing software for the web using Drupal/LAMP developer. This gets me to sit in front of a computer screen for many hours every day. I can't think about spending any more time using my computer in this manner at night - that is especially in the context of music playing/recording. So, I am looking at ways to record music using Open Source projects but in a context that will take the standard computer interface away.

I haven't recorded much recently - or followed the industry developments - but fell inspired to get back to it. If you are a traveler you might want to listen to the sounds-walks I recorded in Shanghai a few months ago: http://fakepop.ca/blog/shanghai-sonore

Cheers

This sounds interesting. Do you mean using hardware controllers, touch screens or webcam to midi conversion and things like that?

A welcome from me too 8)

I'm not exactly sure which shape it would take yet but it's definitely in the lines of what you mention. I guess I have always felt that using a mouse, keyboard and screen either for recording/editing/post-prod was taking away a bit from the 'soul' from the music. It feels counter-intuitive.
