recommendation for tuning software?
Can anyone recommend some tuning software? I'm looking for something that I can put on the pc, hook on a mic signal and have it display how much I'm out of tune(high and low). To be ideal it should:
- recognise itself what note is being played
- have a display large enough so that I can read it from a few meters
- can have a temperament set
It would be useful for tuning an organ and I don't want to have a pc with me on the ladder nor come down each time I have to tune another pipe.

Re: recommendation for tuning software?
Spend some quality time with fmit (and my organ) yesterday. It is indeed very practical to tune instruments and can be recommended for that purpose. I did put it on the netbook and this makes for a small package.
Re: recommendation for tuning software?
My upright piano hasn't been professionally tune in about 5 years. I am looking to try tuning it myself if possible to save money and learn more about the inside of the great instrument. I have a laptop I can hook a mic to and use fmit. Anyone know a good starter guide or some tips for me before I stick my tools in there?

http://community.middlebury.edu/~harris/piano.html and http://piano.detwiler.us/ might be a start. But there are other sites giving more or less the same procedure.
I admit I didn't tune much. Only a few "worst offenders". Now it will have to wait some time to settle before I call in a real tuner.

I watched a professional tune our grand piano, and it is definitely not something I'd want to do myself.

Re: recommendation for tuning software?
Sorry to be bumping old threads, but after getting little help on the Fedora Forums, I was curious...
I have a studio machine I built up with Fedora 11 using the http://ccrma.stanford.edu/planetccrma/software/ repos and it's working well...except for instrument tuning.
I can't find a package that works with Fedora 11 that actually tunes an instrument and connects to JACK. FMIT doesn't compile, qjacktuner doesn't compile (although actually getting the source down for that one was tricky), K3GuiTune loads but doesn't connect to JACK, etc...
So here's the thing: I *can* use an actual tuner in my little studio and it will work just fine. Thing is, I'd feel much more like a professional if I could open a software instrument tuner in the booth and tell someone they were out of tune. Also, it would be helpful when correcting pitch during mixing.
So can anyone tell me of a package that might actually compile? And does anyone know of a package that's been updated in the last three years?

Hi
Fmit is it worse to overwork it to get it compile. May you wone post your error messages then we can look what gives the trouble. Mostly it's because the GCC folks update there stuff ain't backward compatible. So possible there are some missing headers now witch simply must included.
If you interested, open up a new tread in Developers Section, we will have a look, and give assistance to get it work.
