Falk,
couple of questions:

since I have both kde and xfce installed, but when using xfce, the kde apps also appear in the menu. Is it ok to use them while in a xfce session?

Also,
I'm using the Calf plugins, but when I open two effects (ie. delay and phaser) I can only hear one of them. How do I use both at the same time?

I'm also getting this error in the updates:

Code: Select all

W: A error occurred during the signature verification. The repository is not updated and the previous index files will be used. GPG error: http://it.archive.ubuntu.com precise-updates Release: The following signatures were invalid: BADSIG 40976EAF437D05B5 Ubuntu Archive Automatic Signing Key <ftpmaster@ubuntu.com>

W: Failed to fetch http://it.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/dists/precise-updates/Release

W: Some index files failed to download. They have been ignored, or old ones used instead.
thanks!
brian

yes.

this depends on the host.
which one are you using?

not related to kxstudio, it.archive.ubuntu.com just seems corrupted or offline.
you can edit /etc/apt/sources.list and remove it.archi... so it uses the official USA servers.
So I just remove the "it." part of the URL?

As per Calf, what I do is this: I open amsynth, then I open Calf from the menu. Then I connect the audio out of amsynth to calf in, and calf out to audio system in. If I use just one effect, no problem. But if I open two, I can only hear one.
(As you can see, I like using standalones... :) )

hm, maybe a calf bug?
you can always use 2 instances of calfjackhost.

(it's for these little tasks that I need to finish carla asap!)
Ok, thanks Falk!
I'll see if multiple instances does the trick. I thought I was missing something (not uncommon in my case). Maybe I'll fire off a comment at the guys at Calf and see what they say..

FalkTX,

I installed "Ingen" from Synaptic, and it appears in the menu, but nothing opens, and "dpkg -L ingen" says it's not installed.

?

Because "ingen" itself is really not installed, it's "ingen-svn".

Ingen does not have a release yet, what you get is a recent enough version of it from SVN.

btw, to run it from the CLI:

Code: Select all

ingen-svn -eg
Note that it only supports LV2, and from LV2 only a minor set of plugins (most DISTRHO plugins won't work, calf and Rui synths too).
This is not a bug in the plugins but an Ingen "feature" - the author removed some only-a-bit-old LV2 extensions support and doesn't want UIs that need direct access to the plugin (Samplv1, Noisemaker, and quite a few others).
Got it..
What's the "-eg" part of the command in the CLI?
I wasn't able to find any manual entry, so I would have probably never guessed it.

Falk,
is there a way to call up a previous version of a synth? The current version of amSynth crashes due to some bug, and since I'd like to use it, and I see that the previous versions (that didn't crash) remain in the system, how do I call one up to use it?

Thanks!

heh, so now you tell me...

the repo versions are too old. The best bet is me to package an older git version.
Do you remember which version exactly was more stable? (try to get a date as much exact as possible).
:)
Yes, I'm thinking about one of the newer git versions. I think the first crash happened around the 24th of February, so probably a version around the 20th or before..

I've notified Nick about things, but I don't know if he's had time to look at it yet. It even crashes in Carla! :( (BTW, Carla also crashed when I clicked on the "X" to close an instance of ZynaddsubFX. Also, Carla gave an error when I refreshed the database, something about the "OSCfm" or something app..)

I think I fixed this just yesterday (crash on close), I'll push an update to the repos soon.
Thanks falk. I'm hoping Nick will find a "cure" soon. It's the first I've seen amSynth crash!..

Hi Falk,
thanks for updating Triceratops. :)
A couple of issues:
I was able to open it in QTractor, but the presets listed on the left side of the screen are not usable for some reason, and patches still can't be saved. Would that be something on the KXStudio side?

Also, I tried opening Triceratops in ZynJackU, but it crashed when I tried to rescan the plugins. :(

also jalv.gtk perhaps.

note that *all* current host will not show the just-saved lv2 presets until you close and re-open the apps.
I tried opening Triceratops in Ardour (the version in the menu= repository?) and it crashed. :(

How do I use jalv.gtk?

Ok. With jalv.gtk there appears at the top bar, two menu items. One is presets (you load them there) and one is to save presets. :)

So it looks like the version on the website is newer than the one in the repos, correct? Can we get that one?

hm, what website?

both jalv and triceratops-lv2 and updated to their latest stable releases.
I just used the jalv command you gave me, with the website link you posted, and the version that came up is perfect. But when I tried to open Triceratops in Ardour it crashed..

Hi falk,
when I open Qtractor I get this message in the message window:
Error opening file /usr/lib/lv2/synthv1.lv2/manifest.ttl/manifest.ttl (Not a directory)
lilv_world_load_bundle(): error: Error reading file:///usr/lib/lv2/synthv1.lv2/manifest.ttl/manifest.ttl
Could this be what's causing problems loading lv2 instruments? If so, how do I correct it?

Tks!

Remove that, it should be only "/usr/lib/lv2/".
Ok, thanks. I don't remember adding anything there, but I'll remove the synthv1 part.

BTW, when I opened SynthV1 (works fine), I did get these messages, too:

Anything I should adjust?

No, those are normal debug messages.
Some of the old plugins need a little love though (authors seem to have gave up on them).
Ok.
Well, I can say that I'm using Triceratops now, even though the only way to change patches is by using the Carla window first, selecting the voice, then closing it and opening the GUI to tweak things. (I like using the GUIs when possible.)

Every other attempt at Triceratops (Ardour, Qtractor, galv) doesn't allow me to change patches. So I figure it must be something in the app itself that's awry.
