Claudia Request
Can we have Stop and Start buttons added to the Studio section of the toolbar please?
I know it is duplication with the Studio dropdown menu, but so are the new/load/save buttons

Ooooo, I have a request for Claudia, too! Could we get a keyboard shortcut for Canvas->Zoom->Auto Fit? If you get a chance. Thanks!

Hi falkTX,
I don't see the Calf plugins in the menu anymore. Where have they gone?

hm, there was a small typo in the calf packaging. Install both 'calf-plugins' and 'calf-plugins-git' and you should got it again.
I'll upload a fix right now.
Synaptic recommended just the calf-plugin package. So must I install the calf-plugins-git package too?
Just wanting to understand better..

hm, please open another for this next time around.
anyway, make sure you get the desktop installed:
Code: Select all
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install kxstudio-desktop-kde4
Replace 'kde4' with 'xfce' if desired.
Hi falkTX,
sorry bout that. I'll start another thread nex time..
Since you mentioned kde4, I decided to install that one and leave xfce, so that I can use kdenlive and make some video demos. Looks like the right moment to do it.

Sounds a lot like this one. Worth a try, it's a one-liner to fix:

I used to loose my window decorations regularly. Glad to say that it is an instability that seems to have gone away with my combination of desktop/window managers (12.04/MATE/Compiz).
Whatever your window manager (substitute as appropriate) is, this, in a terminal, should bring them back
Code: Select all
$ <window-manager-name> --restart &
With Compiz, one has to specifically enable the Window Decorations plugin to get them at all.
Windows can be moved with <ALT>-Left-Mouse drag. At least, in my system it works. May not be the same for others.

Thanks Thad.
Does using Compiz slow down performance at all? When I installed the kde4, I was amazed at all the extra packages included (and that I'll probably never use on this music-only PC)..

I am only really doing playback, and I don't notice any difference with Compiz, except for good looks, especially my must-have capability, which is adjusting the brightness of individual windows! To be honest, much of the other Compiz stuff is for occasionally showing off to people who haven't seen linux before, although I some people might have enough windows open to use 4 workspaces on the cube. Sure, there must be less system-demanding ways of doing that!
So... it's fine for me, but I'd hesitate to recommend it for serious studio work. Back in 10.04, I used to turn it all off when recording (digitising and editing vinyl LP; haven't done any for a while) now I think it would probably be ok. But the bottom line is is it priority-eye-candy, rather than priority-work!

I logged in using xfce again, and tried "xfwm4 --daemon" and it set things right. Good tool to have around!

Hi FalkTX,
during today's update I got this error:
Code: Select all
Warning from /etc/apparmor.d/usr.bin.evince (/etc/apparmor.d/usr.bin.evince line 148): profile sanitized_helper network rules not enforced
What does it mean? Is it important?
Thanks!
