qjackctl won't start up

Hi. I've got an ASUS laptop computer (UL80JT, if that matters) running Kubuntu Oneiric. My audio card is ALC269VB Analog.

I want to run Rosegarden, which requires jack. When I try to run jack, I get errors telling me that it can't start. For those who understand this sort of stuff, I'll list the output at the end.

Anyway, I've tried to Google around to find out what the problem is. Some of the solutions seemed applicable, but unfortunately they didn't work.

I would appreciate any help. I would *love* it if someone could direct me to a source where I could learn the ins and outs of this stuff. I'm pretty familiar with Linux and computers, but not so much with sound cards and such.

Thanks for any help you can give me.

UPDATE: I got jack running by changing the driver from 'alsa' to 'net.' I have not the slightest idea why that would work, and I'm not happy with using such a "solution." But I'm not happy without sound, either, so I guess I can't really complain.

falkTX, thanks for your reply. Unfortnately I already got rid of pulseaudio because it was causing other problems.

I will check out your KXStudio when it's out. Sounds like you've addressed many of the problems with the Linux sound system.

Thanks.
