[SOLVED] HELP! WINE not seeing audio connections any more!

Ok, I'm running KXStudio, have WINE 1.4, and everything was working perfectly. I have no idea what happened…

And this disrupted my class today when everything had been working, and now it stopped just when I needed it.

So, at one point I had problems, discussed in another thread, but it was solved by WINE config and choosing ALSA. But NOW when I open WINE config under Audio, it just says Driver diagnostics > selected driver: (none)
and all the defaults have only "(System default)" as the option.
It seems that WINE can't see my built-in sound card any more.

What do I do to trouble-shoot this? What could possibly have messed it up?

For reference:
At one point I installed WINE 1.4 according to instructions here on the forum. That worked. Then WINE 1.4 came up in the system update separately and did a re-upgrade or something, but it worked after that, so that shouldn't have been the problem. I later was messing with alsa_in and other settings trying to get a USB interface working. I got that to work, but am not using it now. I want the system to just work with my built-in audio. It could be that messing with ALSA stuff caused a problem. But really, I'm just baffled.
I thought about reinstalling WINE or something, but I know I should get help and not just try things randomly… Incidentally, I find it odd that Software Manager says that removing WINE will remove a bunch of dssi and kxstudio packages — if it does so, does then installing again reinstall all of those? That worried me, so I figured there has to be a better way…

Please help ASAP. Thanks! :( :?

You can reinstall wine, using synaptic, without removing it, and if there are plugins and other
things you want to keep, rename your .wine folder first, reinstall wine, run winecfg again, to get a new .wine folder, then copy back the files from the renamed folder.

I back up my Steinberg folder, for simple recycling. Once a working wine recording setup is achieved,
there is almost nothing to be gained from system updates. Audio on all platforms, is at the
audible 'glass ceiling'. There are plenty of anxious spear-catchers, who will bravely go forth,
and soak up the newest version lead on our behalf  Time is better spent on the drudgery of
 practicing  the physical instruments.

If you installed any windows drivers, directly, or indirectly, that may have caused the odd errors.
Best to quote the error before the throne of google, we are rarely the first

Another source of bad luck, is updating things when multiple, but unrelated repositories
are enabled. Like a guy in a small town, dating three chicks at once. Its only a matter
of time :)

Reinstalling didn't work. For reference, I've not installed windows software. I've only installed fonts and winetricks and am running a standalone .exe windows program which didn't need any formal install in wine.

But I solved the problem! I found the answer here:

Doing that manual change to ALSA with wine regedit worked! Back to normal! So happy I didn't have to undo my system otherwise. Everything's working now!
