Hi all,

is this card supported in Linux?

M-Audio Delta Audiophile 2496

If so, has anyone any experience of using one?

I plugged one like these (the USB one) in an ubuntu studio 7.10 some time ago and it seemed that the system recognized the card (it appeared in the cards section with its interfaces: midi.. and some more) but I did not use it.. so I cannot say actually that it works.
Expect it helps you.

I've the maudio audiophile 24/96 pci.

On Debian it works good. On Ubuntu I had a little issue with Wine, but it was easy to solve..
I didn't get it to work with Ubuntu and pulseaudio yet, but that's more a pulseaudio problem I guess, and I didn't try really hard to solve it...

I've seen one on ebay for 40 quid, all I need to do is to record a maximum of 2 audio inputs, and 1 midi.

For 40 quid I think I might take the chance - I'm on Ubuntu 8.10 at the moment, but as the machine is about to become a dedicated DAW I can change the OS to whatever works.

So this card can be used to plug my bass and guitars in and record straight to Audacity or similar?

To plugin my bass and guitar I use a maudio dmp 3 preamp. I think you need a preamp for that.

Ahh - ok, thank you.

I will have a look on ebay for that too ;-)

If I were to get the Delta 66 instead would I still need a pre-amp, or is that what the greyish box is that comes with it?

Good question. I don't know for sure but I think you still need a preamp...

The grayish box that comes with a regular Delta 66 doesn't have preamps, but the Omnistudio that can be used with it does. Either way you can get by without a preamp but you'd probably want a direct box at least since guitars and basses are high impedance instruments. The only thing you HAVE to have a preamp for is a microphone.
