Just a warning: PCI and PCMCIA are both going the way of the dodo. Most new moterboards come with only a single pci slot if you're lucky and the situation won't get better. Get yourself a PCI-E (pci-express) card if you buy a new one now. Same for laptops and PCMCIA (cardbus). Now laptops come with cardbus-express slots.
Do yourself a favour and get the latest interface if you are buying something new now.
I'm not sure about firewire. The last boards/laptops I saw don't have it anymore. But at the same time there are more and more audiointerfaces using firewire.
