SOS I need a ROCK SOLID distro!

What other apps and distros do you use to round out your studio?

I still believe in FLOSS and try to use it if possible. If you think that is a religious thing, I am sorry. I don't think so.
I just use the best tools I can afford. The fact that you recite an acronym, FLOSS, makes me
think it is religion indeed :) (Not in the divine/church sense, but the devoted sense. 8) )
There are many flossy sermons on the net, some from fiery zealots, some are more lukewarm admonishments, and I wonder how their happy religion allows for them using all that closed source commercial code burned into the chips of their computers, synthesizers, cell phones, home theaters,
iDevices, mp3/ogg players, cars, home appliances? :?

Don't we all $pay$ the golden calves from Intel, AMD, ARM, mAudio, Focusrite, Roland, Yamaha etc?
I dare say the comparatively few lines of FLOSS code we benefit from, are all absolutely useless without mountains of closed source code being commercially developed, burned to silicon, and manufactured as part of physical devices, and that done amongst competitors not wishing success
to fierce rivals.

To me, this discussion is important, because people in 'the real world', think I'm a nut for using
linux, because they see this endless taking of sides as lunacy, not being fooled by misleading
labels that lull us into the dream-state, where we wander like zombies from
closed-source code driven device, to closed-source code driven device, mumbling
'floss is the way, no-one must pay' Oh, the hypocrisy!

I myself kind of enjoy being taken seriously sometimes, but public perceptions of the linux community demanding people use only a certain software category, do not tend to make that happen.

Now to slightly dent the street definition of 'free' software, no, NONE of it is free. Someone always pays for those long hours needed to craft working code. It could be a neglected wife, child, older parent, or friend. Maybe ones personal health suffers from lack of sleep, perfectionist stress,
or repetitive motion injuries. Perhaps ones employer gets less productivity from a 'drained' or
unhealthy employee. Somebody always pays. There is a purpose for work, and for rest, and for wisely balancing the few hours in between. Balance is the key, and admitting there is a high price for 'free' software, is an important step.
Happy 2012 to LMF and may the music be better than ever 8)

Hello,

Happy new year to all.

I don't understand this discussion. Use what you like, but most of all, make good music, that's needed :)

About the ROCK SOLID distro, you mostly need a rock solid tweaking and rock solid flexibility in your approach to problem solving, regardless of the OS, s/w, h/w, etc. There is no idiot-proof system. Complexity brings by definition its chaotic cortège of surprises :D
