"The March" - Criticism Welcomed

Post by armanhaghi »

Hi Everyone,

I'm pleased to present:

"The March"
-------------------------------------------------------
Link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cAmcSFq4CH4
-------------------------------------------------------
... a composition created in Studio64 primarily using Ardour, ZynAddSubFX & Hydrogen (via JACK)

I was messing with compression so pump it loud with plenty of bass!

All feedback, positive and negative, is welcome!

Thanks!

Arman Haghi

p.s. I've also shared it on the "New Members" forum as I'm new... wasn't sure where the right place was...

Nice original flavour with that eastern tinged acidic sound you've got Zyn doing combined with the low sinister cello sample. Good idea to upload to youtube too think I'll have a bash at doing a video with linux.

Hi Arman,

this is a nice piece of work that you are offering us !
You've got hydrogen go wild it is groovy and pumpy. 8)
I like part 2 less. I think it would be nice to mix part one and two like a dialog : each part answering the other one.
How did you get such nice cello sounds ?
Also you made something impressive with zyn, I coulnd't tell it was the good old zasfx at work here !
The mix is well balanced and the sound very clear, hats down !

Hi All,

WOW - I asked for criticism and got all positives - you're all too kind.

@DoosC

Thank you for the compliments! I was fidgetting with the mix quite a bit :)
zyn is cool huh? but to clarify the effects were using Ardour plugins

Fantastic idea - so it kinda calms down (as a form of response) then gets all busy again! Part 2 was actually meant as a break-down, like a sample for others to rip and use the beat if they want, but your idea is actually really cool!

I think, I THINK it was the ones from here:
http://www.linuxsampler.org/instruments.html
but I did this at about 4am and seriously can't remember... (should write things down)

@thunderox

Thank you also for the kind words!
Let us know if you do a youtube vid, would love to see+hear your work.
Note: I made the video using kdenlive

BTW all:
The Hydrogen samples were downloaded from:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/hydroge ... libraries/
I made a custom kit using mostly VariBreaks and CircAfrique I think, but don't quote me!

Cheers,

Arman

Hi Arman, thanx for sharing your composing tips it is always nice to know a little bit more about each other musical recipes
Agreed kdenlive is pretty straight forward when it comes to producing some videos with no particular skills in that area.
