Changing audio device in Qsynth

What other apps and distros do you use to round out your studio?

Changing audio device in Qsynth

Post by angelsguitar »

Hi. This is kind of a noob question, so here it is:

I'm currently trying to configure Rosegarden to use Qsynth as a synth using only ALSA (no Jack), as I'll be only using them to playback some MIDI sequences and don't need the audio capabilities of Jack. The thing is, Qsynth uses my default soundcard for playback, and I'd like to use a USB Behringer audio interface I have instead. I know Qsynth gives the option of specifing the audio device in setup-audio: Audio Device, but I don't what I have to put in there to specify my USB interface.

How do I determine the text that I have to put in there, so that Qsynth uses my USB interface for playback instead of my integrated (default) soundcard?

Thanks in advance for any help!

I'm not entirely sure, as I usually just use Jack, but if you run 'aplay -l' you should get something like:

Code: Select all

**** List of PLAYBACK Hardware Devices ****
card 0: ICH6 [Intel ICH6], device 0: Intel ICH [Intel ICH6]
  Subdevices: 0/1
  Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
card 0: ICH6 [Intel ICH6], device 4: Intel ICH - IEC958 [Intel ICH6 - IEC958]
  Subdevices: 1/1
  Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
which in this case tells us about the availability of 'hw:0,0' and 'hw:0,4' (card 0, device 0 or 4). That's the string I expect qsynth is looking for.
