How do I set the right paths?
' To use dssi-vst: make sure DSSI_PATH is set appropriately, set
VST_PATH to a colon-separated list of the directories containing VST
plugins, and start up your DSSI host.'
I've dssi-vst installed and have a dssi-vst.so in /usr/local/lib/dssi
And I' ve a folder with Addictive drums /home/user/Addictive drums
And a /home/jack/Addictive Drums.dll file (maybe I copied it from .wine/ somewhere...)
And I've a file:
/home/jack/.dssi-vst/Addictive Drums.dll.cache
It complains that I've to set the right paths, where should I place the files and how set the paths?
thanks in advance,
dssi-vst

Re: dssi-vst
in your ~/.bashrc..
this is mine:
export VST_PATH="/usr/include/vst"
export VST_PATH="/home/harv/plugins:/usr/lib/vst:/windows/dlls:/custom/vst/dir"
export DSSI_PATH=/usr/lib/dssi
this was created for my distro but on other distros, I just have:
export DSSI_PATH=/usr/lib/dssi
export VST_PATH=/home/harv/plugins
where /home/harv/plugins is my vst dir...
to run as standalone:
#vsthost whatever.dll
hope that helps.

Re: dssi-vst
Ok thanks
export DSSI_PATH=/usr/local/lib/dssi
export VST_PATH=/home/jack/VstPlugins/
and I removed the spaces in the plugin names (Addictive Drums.dll > AddictiveDrums.dll)
export DSSI_PATH=/usr/local/lib/dssi
export VST_PATH=/home/jack/VstPlugins/
and I removed the spaces in the plugin names (Addictive Drums.dll > AddictiveDrums.dll)

Re: dssi-vst
hey! what am I reading here ?
studio32 using Addictive Drums ?! I thought you wanted to avoid windows stuff (I wrote about AD some months ago and it did not seem like a reasonable option to you).

Re: dssi-vst
I'm not gonna use it... it's just for testing. I have to know how it works and what and if I miss something (which is not really the case imho) and to tell my windows friends what is possible.thorgal wrote:hey! what am I reading here ?studio32 using Addictive Drums ?! So I installed with success the demo versions of:
reaper
FL Studio
Amplitube2
Pianoteq
Guitar rig III
Now I want to check how reaper, rosegarden, qtractor and lmms works with those vst plugins...
Advice is welcome ....

Re: dssi-vst
Like me, I'm trying to pull away from windows. All I use were the vst impulse response loaders.
I still use them to compare the sound with jconv and jack_convolve...

Hi, here is advice about lmms - don't use it to run VSTi's unless you're into nightmare crashes. There's only a few that work at all with it, and if it doesn't like the VST it crashes, and takes out jack for good measure, without so much as a "by your leave".studio32 wrote:I'm not gonna use it... it's just for testing. You might want to try out Psycle if you're into the tracker experience. There is a linux only version in the pipeline, but until then the w*ndo*s (hem hem) .exe works well with any WINE version from 1.1.11 upwards. Psycle is the best bits of Buzz combined with the best bits of C*ba*e (hem again) AND i've even hooked it up to JOST to do natives!
Psycle also put out a VST bundle .zip which contains a wicked VSTi called "Oatmeal". Trust me, you want to check that mutha out - where else are you going to get a vector synth of this quality for free?
