I already build for Lucid, Maverick and Natty, so Debian Lenny and Sid will just be a "rebuild away".
That is discussed on debain-devel from time to time and not so far :

Hmm I am not a great fan of Novell either, but would it harm if you use a service of Novell, come on ... just don't sell your soul on them

Ok. I've checked qtractor. Much better than 2 years ago, looks stable. But it has very little futures yet - at first no automation.

Hi,
I started using/trying Remix_OS a short while ago and I like it a lot.
Q: Reaper using wineasio (and jackd with it) runs as root. Does that mean I can't connect other apps (not running as root) to jack at the same time?
Thanks

Hi PatS,
Nice to hear you like the OS.
Yes, any other audio software should be running under root to work together with Reaper.
The Reaper is installed under root in Remix_OS and it brings some advantages. The main one is that you can install all your VST's and tune Reaper and all of plugs as you want, and then you can easily back up the OS to the ISO file to have your own personal distribution with your own studio setup. That's what I do:
1) Install Remix_OS.
2) Install all VST's, presets and other stuff I need.
3) Create a new ISO with Reamstersys (System _> System Backup), using 'distro' mode.
Now, if I crash the OS, I can install my own distro with my personal studo setup in 15 minutes and start working again.
Or I can start (and install) that distro from a USB flash on any computer.

Thanks Remixer, good to know.
I just saw that you've got version 11.05 out. Is there an easy way to upgrade from 10.10?
Your system works great for me as an ubuntu alternative, so also for non-audio stuff.

Remix_OS version names mean only the date of release. Comparing with Ububntu they are all Maverick (10.10), but with all upgrades up to date. So there is no need to upgrade, exept the case you really know what you are going to upgrade.
Remix_OS is based on Debian, not on Ubuntu, but it has Ubuntu flavour and depends on its repository. It means that we get the next release or update when we have the next release from Debian.
I always follow the golden rule: if your system works fine, don't go upgrading it, untill you really need and know what your are doing.

You need to get your work to an english website. I have seen unrelated posts in
diverse forums, where your work remains untested, only based on the difficulty
of getting to the iso. Using hosting sites cluttered with icons leading away from the direct-download
your potential users are looking for, is shooting yourself in the foot, and you already
blasted your other foot.
edit: forgot to say WOW! looks like a great update!

Hope this gets wider availabilty soon.

I really like Remix OS for it's great audio set-up with REAPER, but it doesn't have the wifi working for me, so it is very frustrating. Also, Xfce seems to lack some GUI controls that I really like in KDE, such as fine-tuned control for use of my multitouch trackpad. The whole Cairo launcher thing is kinda bloated too. I'd like to get REAPER working under a KDE system. What's the best way to do that? Start with a good KDE distro and install KXStudio and LinREAPER? Or start with Remix OS and then install KDE? (Or can I get Xfce to really work more like KDE?) Or something else? Of course, Remix is a no-go if I can't get wireless working...

kde wireless info here:
http://wiki.debian.org/WiFi/HowToUse
If you install the wifi setup gui using synaptic, it will pull in the base libraries needed by kde,
and any needed utility, but not a whole kde system. I install k3b for burning media, and it just
adds the main library, and a few small items. Konqueror is very flexible and reliable for file management, but always verify deeply nested folders actually have contents after moving them.
I've been burned several times over the years.
Normally, all apps using a jackd session must run from the same user. all root,
or all you. You could try it the other way, and if it works, it works
You can install software during live dvd sessions for testing, it vanishes when you reboot.

Thanks for the help, slowpick.
Unfortunately, I didn't see this until I kinda gave up and went with KXStudio on Mint KDE. I didn't really like the setup of Remix OS desktop anyway, the whole Cairo thing and separate side bar. I didn't get a good feeling from Xfce. I really like KDE.
The real question now is: I still want to run REAPER, so if I do so under KXStudio, are there particular tools or settings I should do that Remix would have had but KXStudio would not?
