But does JACK work properly? If so I wouldn't bother that much about the mixer, unless you really need it.

Yes. I'd say jack works properly. I don't get any x-runs. My Qtractor tends to crash whenever I right click in some odd dialog. But I don't think it has anything to do with jack.
I won't bother about the mixer (for now). I just hope I don't need the mixer when I try to record my guitar. I've just used midi instruments so far. The thing is that I bought the card because it was listed as 'fully supported' by ffado.org. But I'm fairly certain that the mixer would work if the card would be addressed to its own irq. But if I understand computer hardware correctly, device irq can't be changed.

Ok, cool!stefan wrote:Yes. I'd say jack works properly. I don't get any x-runs.
Which version of Qtractor? Iirc this was a known bug and it should be solved by now.stefan wrote:My Qtractor tends to crash whenever I right click in some odd dialog. But I don't think it has anything to do with jack.
No, you won't need it. The mixer is only for monitoring purposes so if you use monitoring in your DAW for example you don't need the mixer.stefan wrote:I just hope I don't need the mixer when I try to record my guitar.
It's fully supported and the mixer should work too. If you really want it to work maybe you could send an e-mail to the FFADO User mailinglist: http://ffado.org/?q=contactstefan wrote:The thing is that I bought the card because it was listed as 'fully supported' by ffado.org.
No you can't change them but the mixer should work nonetheless, despite the FireWire controller sharing its IRQ.stefan wrote:But I'm fairly certain that the mixer would work if the card would be addressed to its own irq. But if I understand computer hardware correctly, device irq can't be changed.

I currently use ffado 2.0.0. Do You think that upgrading to 2.0.1 and the 'new stack' would change anything?
I use Qtractor 0.4.5 from the Ubuntu 10.04 repo. According to qtractor.sourceforge.net the latest version is 0.4.8.
PS. I'll send an email to the ffado group.

I'd stick with the old stack if you're on 10.04stefan wrote:I currently use ffado 2.0.0. Do You think that upgrading to 2.0.1 and the 'new stack' would change anything?
0.4.8 is in my PPA: https://launchpad.net/~autostatic/+archive/ppastefan wrote:I use Qtractor 0.4.5 from the Ubuntu 10.04 repo. According to qtractor.sourceforge.net the latest version is 0.4.8.
It doesn't have this bug afaik.

Great PPA! I'll install Your version of Qtractor. Thanx! And I'll report back to this thread when (if) I get any solution from the ffado list.
Re: Edirol FA-66 and Ricoh Host Controller
Saw you got better help than I can provide. Just some remarks:
- ffado-mixer doesn't work on my setup with the fa-66 either.
- if I start Jack (with QJackCtl) I never start anything else from ffado, just Jack. I didn't even know about ffado-dbus-server before reading this thread.
- from what I understood ffado needs the "old" stack. From the ffado wiki:

Also, beware of conflicts between this "old" IEEE 1394 kernel stack (ieee1394, ohci1394, raw1394) and the "new" one (firewire_core, firewire_ohci). If you have both compiled, don't load them both at the same time. I wasn't able to get libffado working with the new stack.
[SOLVED] Edirol FA-66 and Ricoh Host Controller
Ok... I posted my problem on the ffado mailinglist and the answer was simple enough.
Case closed...The FA66 doesn't allow to set the sampling frequency from the PC. So can only select it with the hardware knob. Note after changing the sample rate you have to reboot the device.
So if you choose 48 kHz on the device then you have to start jack with 48 kHz too.
This is a wanted firmware limitation from Roland. So the above message just tells you that we cant change the sample rate. I think the error message is a bit too much.
The input faders should work though.
Re: Edirol FA-66 and Ricoh Host Controller
Solution for "Error (avc_avdevice.cpp) etc" are dependencies. If you install ffado from svn you have to install all dependencies, without them you will see errors
