Soundblaster X-Fi in Ubuntu (Studio) version 8.04 Hardy

Post by jukingeo »

Hello to all you music makers this July 4th of 2008!!!

Today brings me additional news to celebrate!

Some good news has come down the pike in regards to FINALLY getting the SoundBlaster X-Fi sound card ALSA drivers to work in Ubuntu & Ubuntu Studio's version 8.04 (otherwise known as Hardy Heron).

Follow this guide:

http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p= ... tcount=675

The correspondence is in this forum starting at the page marked:

http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php? ... 6&page=102

As a final note: DO NOT....I REPEAT, DO NOT USE THE OLDER OSS DRIVERS!!!!

(You will see references to this at the start of the thread).

While OSS does support this card, it only does so partially. OSS doesn't work with streaming audio in Hardy Heron either. OSS will also break Jack which is absolutely needed to work with the applications in Ubuntu Studio.

You will also notice that the guide is aimed for the AMD64 crowd however the patches WILL WORK in just about all formats. When it doubt ask Amtam, the author of this patch.

So good luck to those that have a Sound Blaster X-fi and would like to get it to work in the Hardy version of Ubuntu (Studio).

Enjoy the holiday!!
