One option
1. Record a stereo track
2. Pan one input on your mixer to the left for your vocal or guitar or whatever
3. Pan the second input on your mixer to the right for your other instrument.
4 split the stereo track into two tracks.
Another option
1. Select to record stereo track that is split into two tracks.
2. Pan your first input to the left.
3. Pan your second to the right.
Another option
1. Set your audio recording software to record multi tracks with multi inputs
2. use your multi inputs on your sound card to record to selected tracks on your software.
*Wish I could show you,it's a lot easier than trying to explain it. Either way, if you are just dealing with a single stereo input the way to get two simultanious tracks is to split them to the Left and Right channels. That way you get two monural tracks that were recorded at the same time. Better yet you can record mutliple tracks if you have multi channel card and then you can get into surround panning and such.
EDIT: I'm not sure if this is what you wanted to know. If you are asking about a secondary input on your actual card, it should be active. It's just going to be a software prefferance issue from there. And that would depend on what audio suite you are using. Sorry can't help more.
