Re: Some new "experimental" work up on soundcloud
Ah... I see now, my post was unclear. I meant specifically "Affectations: Torso" -- that one was all Linux (except for some editing in *gasp*choke* Cubase, which I used only because I'm teaching it and I'm more familiar with it than Ardour... and I haven't used Ardour much just because DAWs are only rarely part of my workflow).
"Are you listening" is also all SuperCollider, but made on a Mac. That was in March and I switched to Linux around August or September. (But the SC code would work just as well in Linux.)
I spent a good amount of time in my early years with SC on ways to do proper mixing (EQ, compression, other standard and nonstandard effects). Good to hear that it pays off
Thanks,
James

Anyhow, it's a great mix, I special like it from time 3.33 brings a smile in my face,
So, as a theoretical question, you don't except any problems when you try to recreate this song under a linux environment, or , do you use tools witch aren’t GPL'd or wouldn't run under Linux ?
It's a ll plain SuperCollider ?

It's all SuperCollider. (Well, I also used Audacity to trim the recording file and encode to mp3.) SC's Linux compatibility is very strong. Core language features and DSP are the same in both environments (same code base). There are some UI features in the Mac .app bundle that aren't supported in Linux, mainly because the approach for the Linux port(s) is to compile the language as a commandline executable and integrate it with some popular editors (Emacs, gedit and vim are supported, with Emacs support being the most comprehensive). My GUI stuff is all cross-platform ready.
A QT version is in the works, which would only improve the cross-platform situation
BTW there is a weekly SuperCollider meeting in Berlin. No idea if that's close to you.
Thanks for listening!
James
