Can't get sound after migrating to Fedora 14 64 bit

Everything was fine under 32 bit Fedora, but after migration I've lost MIDI and MP3/OGG sounds.
Surprisingly Skype works fine and KDE system sounds work too.

For example, here's what Rosegarden prints: http://pastebin.com/MvGcbGv6
This is from MPlayer: http://pastebin.com/if4UL7Tn
Listing of my sound devices: http://pastebin.com/RaufRFuh
Even this throws errors:

Code: Select all

$ aplay -vv chimes.wav
ALSA lib pcm_dmix.c:1018:(snd_pcm_dmix_open) unable to open slave
Can't go back to 32bit unfortunately as some apps I am using require 64bit. Any ideas welcome, questions - ask away!

You might want to ask this on the CCRMA mailing list: http://ccrma-mail.stanford.edu/mailman/ ... lanetccrma

Have you set up http://wiki.linuxmusicians.com/doku.php ... imits.conf ? Perhaps try http://code.google.com/p/realtimeconfigquickscan/ for some more checks.

Looks like mplayer tries to use hd0,0 (card 0 device 0), but card 0 only has pcm playback on the device 3. Card 1 has pcm playback on devices 0, 2, 3 and 4. Could you paste the contents of /proc/asound/cards? that should tell you which card is which.

Hmm not sure, could you paste your ~/.asoundrc too if any?

I wonder which apps, but i guess that's offtopic :)

$ cat /proc/asound/cards

HD-Audio Generic at 0xfd5fc000 irq 48
1 [Audigy2 ]: Audigy2 - SB Audigy 2 Platinum [SB0240P]

Pinnacle Systems GmbH DVC100 at usb-0000:00:12.2-4, high speed

no .asoundrc
never had to change limits.conf, everything worked fine before migration.
Now that explains everything: I don't know why and how, but HD adapter is now used by everything except KDE apps. Blacklisting all hda_ modules in /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf totally solved the issue, I have MP3 and MIDI now, as well as AVI and FLV with sound! Thank you 10^6
