so the will be the new 2.6.39 optimised kernel you're talking about? Because you are right, the generic kernel does nothing for low latency but irq threading works..Pablo wrote: So, if I understand correctly, the good news is that the optimised kernel binaries ("low-latency kernels") will also do irq threading without the need of an "rt patch" .

hello,
I was too vague in my earlier statement. The 2.6.39-1-686-pae kernel is a debian kernel compiled _without_ the CONFIG_PREEMPT=y option (but still with "threaded irqs").
If you need a debian kernel compiled with this option, you can get it from the liquorix repos. But I don't think it is PAE though. I tried it anyway and ran the RT cyclictest as discussed in the LAD list. I got some outstanding results! But unfortunately, I do not have much time for fiddling around ... not sure how Jeremy (autostatic) manages family life and music prod, I simply cannot at the moment ... sigh ...
Cheers!

yeah, on my desktop the generic Arch kernel is compiled with CONFIG_PREEMPT=y and I run the liquorix also and I get great results on that but the desktop is old and slow... My laptop with the Intel-HDA soundcard, only the RT kernel get performance... the others, as soon as an app is launched, the xruns goes crazy....thorgal wrote:hello,
