Hi everyone.
Been trying to get to grips with making music with Linux for a couple of months now. Started using MuseScore to write some music and then export it as midi into Qtractor. I have also been getting to grips with Hydrogen as well. I am assuming I now have to use Ardour or similar somewhere in the process as well. I am now not sure which order I should be doing things in and how I get from one app to another. My playing skills are not brilliant which is why I have been using midi as a basis. My idea is to get the basic structure down and overdub with guitar, bass, vocal at a later stage.
Any help would be gratefully accepted.
Thanks

Welcome to the forum!
You can have your audio tracks in qtractor aswell. If you prefer to work with ardour, you can record to its tracks whatever sound that goes through jack. You make virtual conections, this is, jack connections to connect one app to another. Also, you can use the jack transport to sync apps together. But there is not one workflow that is good for all and everyone.

Re: Hi from Bedford, England
Welcome. I'm not too far from you and I know there are a few other open source musicians in the area. Some of us meet up at the Hertfordshire LUG in Stevenage each month if you want to come along and chat about Linux, music and anything else

It was people there who inspired me to have a go at some recording. So far I've used Rosegarden (to play midi files) and Ardour (to record audio). I plan to play around with Hydrogen and try to get to grips with effects. I'm mainly a guitarist who sings a bit, but I want to do some backing for songs I do.
