This is my first attempt at making audio on Linux. I'm trying to breath new life into an old soundtrack MOD for a game since its public domain now. I separated the four channels into just right and left, and then exported the MOD to MIDI from Schism Tracker, and imported it into Rosegarden. Opening up the MIDI in MuseScore first, and saving it seemed to help clean up the playback. I exported the instrument samples from Schism Tracker into AIFF, and made a custom soundfont from them. I've been assigning channels from Qsynth for each instrument into Rosegarden.
One problem I've had is that some of the samples play rushed and cut off, and others don't play long enough. How would I go about fixing that? I've been using Swami, but I haven't been able to change the soundfont properties.
Another is that Schism Tracker won't play with Jack running. I've exported the MOD as WAV, and played it back through Ardour, but I may have some instruments not assigned right. Is there a way to run Schism Tracker and Jack at the same time? It doesn't matter if I can't hear Schism Tracker, because I just want to assign instruments.

Re: Schism Tracker export to MIDI
Hey Downer !
As a fellow shism tracker user and fan
, I came to the same issue I mean running both jack and schism.
I used some tips, found there and there and installed libsdl1.2debian-pulseaudio and now I can happily run both shism and jack at the same time through the pulse jack-sink.
I'm running kubuntu 10.10.

DoosC, your post definitely got me going in the right direction! Unfortunately I'm on Fedora and not Debian, and this page helped me out. http://proaudio.tuxfamily.org/wiki/inde ... PulseAudio
I added these lines to /etc/asound.conf
I also had to add these lines to /etc/pulse/default.pa
And I installed nearly everything about PulseAudio and Jack through yum.
Should I ask elsewhere about fine tuning the playback in Rosegarden? I don't know how to read sheet music.
I added these lines to /etc/asound.conf
Code: Select all
pcm.!default {
type pulse
}
## Not mandatory
ctl!default {
type pulse
}Code: Select all
load-module module-jack-sink channels=2 channel_map=front-left,front-right
set-default-sink jack_out
set-default-source jack_inShould I ask elsewhere about fine tuning the playback in Rosegarden? I don't know how to read sheet music.

Re: Schism Tracker export to MIDI
Great ! Now you can even route shism audio output through rakarrack and try some fancy stuffs
What do you mean by
I guess you want to use the Matrix View

Yes, Matrix View, but I must have something wrong with my samples. I'll try changing them and see if that helps, Thanks!
Re: Schism Tracker export to MIDI
I just want to let you all know that I've been trying out schism's midi output along with amsynth and it works, so far so good.
This is as close as it gets to the perfect sequencer but without having to tweak every single sample.
Other midi trackers available for linux are tutka, shaketracker, jacker and fltracker. And while they are all good in their own terms (specially jacker, with its timeline), nothing beats schism's pattern editor with all it's keyboard shortcuts.
I wonder if BEAST, buzztrax, aldrin or neil have good midi out...
