Fan control (software)

Post by studio32 »

Hi,

There is fancy hardware stuff available for fan control, like http://www.scythe-usa.com/product/acc/0 ... etail.html

But isn't it possible to control fans with software? Which software and how well does it work?

My netbooks fan is controlled by a kernel module. All modern fans are controlled by the bios anyway. Actually, somewhere in /proc/acpi you can see the status of most fans, and perhaps you can even control them that way.

Linux uses lm_sensors to monitor and control the fans (as well as system temps).
