MIDI Controller Advice

Post by samsonite2010 »

Hi,

Since moving countries, I have not had any musical instruments at home and have been writing music with just my mouse - this is fine, but I really like to play with ideas on a real instrument.

So, I am looking at getting myself a MIDI controller keyboard because they are relatively inexpensive and I can use the vast array of sounds available on my PC.

I think asking for recommendations is a bit too much of an open question, but feel free to throw them in!

My preference is for something a bit better than a flimsy keyboard, semi-weighted at least. I find it hard to get further than the M-Audio Axion 61 or the Keystation 88es when it comes to price. I like to have a slightly more natural feel to the keys, but I am not so fussy as it is my first keyboard.

It would be good to know which keyboards to avoid in terms of compatibility with Linux too.

Hopefully that is a big enough question for you all ;)

Those Axioms look awesome and afaik they are Linux compatible. I have a M-Audio Keystation 61es and works with Linux, so the 88es should too.
