I've been lurking here for a longer time, but it seems that only now I took the time to sign in. I wonder why I did not do it before! For a Linux musician, this is indeed a nice and useful corner, which just keeps growing new branches.
I had terrible time back in 2005 when I had promised to mix an EP for a Finnish doom metal band. I was using Win98 and some not-so-stable programs, which did a nightmare combination. Finally, the stuff was somehow glued together, but then I decided that this will never happen again. Those days, my friend was already using Ardour with Debian. He advised me to try out a new, more beginner-friendly Linux distro, Ubuntu. The next day I formatted the entire hard disk and started an adventure in the world of Linux audio. At first, I did not even know where to put those odd commands that I found from internet, but since there was no turning back, I just had to learn... And honestly, I have not regretted this move!
At the moment, I'm producing demos (or maybe it's an album) for our prog rock band with that Debian guy, as well as sketching new songs for my own project, which is more like downtempo/electronica with folk influences. I could also be interested in collaborating across the web, if only time permits.
Glad to be here!
Cheers, Tapani
