Hi
I am a bassist in a band, and also play a bit of guitar - electric acoustic and resonator slide, hence the 'delta' in deltafred.
I tried to install Red Hat in about 2000 but failed miserably.
Then in 2007 I got so hacked off with Windoz and all its background processes, viruses etc that I put an Ubuntu Warty Warthog Live CD into my drive and have never looked back.
I downloaded 7.10 and installed it on an old PC (as Warty would not install being too old) and after 3 weeks I had not switched my main Windows PC so decided to put a clean hard drive in and install Ubuntu.
I still use Windows 98 running Cool Edit 2000, on an old PC, to record and edit band rehearsals and would really like to do this under Ubuntu. As yet I have failed to find an editor that is as easy and quick to use, especially at midnight after a 4 hour rehearsal. If I can find a suitable audio editor then I can dispense with Windows completely.

Hi fred
I can remember cooledit. I used to use it too.
Maybe you should try audacity (http://audacity.sourceforge.net/). It's not exactly the same. But also very simple to use. And you can install it with synaptic.
