Preemptive apologies for sharing a non-original song here. My talents only go as far as recording crappy unoriginal covers of other artist's work :?

Here's a cover of Yellow - Coldplay: https://youtu.be/-i6-xh-ZJ0c?si=1x1dmf2ZIsSpsqAG

I don't see a lot of pop/soft rock around here so thought I might share! I could never really spend much time on music, so I need to rely on noob friendly plugins like fabfilter and other simple analog emulation plugins. Due to the sad state of analog emulation plugins on linux, I do rely on running a lot of windows VST plugins (mostly ones that came included with my arturia audio interface and some free plugin alliance ones). Regardless, for the nerds:

I am using Arturia Audiofuse Studio (8in/6out without ADAT ext), using 6 of the inputs going in. I am always fiddling with the routing, using a lightweight windows VM every few months to reroute/reconfigure some stuff on the interface. But having a patchbay helps a lot, most of my day-day routing is analog.

1/ Tracking chain:

  • Vocals: Shure SM7b -> 1073eq clone -> LA2A clone -> DAW
  • Acoustic guitar:
    • DI -> interface instr input -> DAW
    • Stereo mics AKG 121 and Rode NT1 into a stereo pair of Cranborne Audio Camden Pres (I love this pre!) -> DAW
  • Electric guitar:
    • DI -> interface instr input -> DAW
    • Amp -> Ox stomp -> DAW

2/ Mixing: I have been using Ardour for a few years now and like it a lot. The help docs could use some work though, we could use some influencers pushing that front (jk). I used some fabfilter, Plugin Alliance Brainworx, Oeksound soothe 2 (trial edition, but tempted to buy it, only if it wasn't for the iLok bs), Valhalla reverb plugins. I used to use Linux native plugins before, but the UX throws off someone like me who understands very little mixing.

This has been covered by world + dog. Yours is a pretty good one.
