Can I use two via firewire?
Can I mix brands of interfaces?
If not firewire, can I mix brands of interfaces with ADAT optical to combine two together?

Combining two interfaces and get them in sync is not really possible, except if your computer sees only one interface that's extended with an ADAT interface. That works great:
Interface2 ---ADAT---Interface1---USB-or-FW---Computer

I hear this often, but how big this sync problem is really? And if I would want to check my own 2 interface system for sync problems, how should I test it?

Combining two firewire interfaces that support daisy chaining works too (viewtopic.php?t=26893).

Yeah, familiar with that. And it is partially outdated, not including zalsa_in/zalsa_out option.

Code: Select all
jack_load zalsa_out -i "-d hw:USB"
works, but it is not synchronous.
