I had been looking for a forum dedicated to making music on Linux and found this one recently. I'm an amateur musician who wants to get into recording. I have all the gear I need to get started, but am working out how to proceed. My latest purchase was a Zoom H4. I wanted something I could use away from the PC, but also intend to use it as my main microphone/interface. It seemed to work on my Kubuntu system without any configuration, but I have yet to do much recording to really test the quality.
I have to work around the family, so don't get too much time to work on music, but I am coaching my kids with their playing and hope to make some recordings of them. I have a project in mind of creating a CD to give to relatives this Xmas. That is as high as I am aiming for now.
There's a run-down of my equipment on my site

My PC is an AMD X2 4600 with 2GB and a 250GB disk. That should be more than adequate for my needs. It is running Kubuntu 8.04. That generally works, but I lost the ability to record from the on-board sound in an earlier upgrade.
I'll be hanging around this forum now in hope of picking up some tips.
