5k2k display and AMD Linux drivers

hi all,
I am considering a new 5k2k display with high refresh rate (Dell U4025QW).
That's a huge investment for me and would hopefully last me many years.
I am a bit anxious and insecure after reading recent news that the HDMI Forum somehow seems to block AMD's open source drivers that would allow for higher refresh rates.
Maybe somebody has experience or ideas to share how to cleverly move forward?
My current setup uses an AMD Ryzen 7 7840HS with (integrated) Radeon 780M Graphics.
The Display Port only allows for 4K@60Hz. So for 5K, I would not have a high refresh rate I am aiming for. Hence my reluctance after reading the HDMI news.
There is a USB4 port that should allow for 8K@60Hz. But I am not sure that would work with a display's Thunderbolt 4 port, encapsulating Display Port again.
I have the option to attach an external AMD Radeon XT 7600M. That may allow for higher refresh rates with Display Port, but I simply cannot find documentation on it. So again, may be stuck with HDMI.
Grateful for any ideas or ways to unstuck my thoughts on this

Why 5k? You're going to have to use it at a minimum of 200% scaling to be able to see anything comfortably which will give you an effective resolution somewhere around 3440 x 1440. So why not just get a monitor with that resolution and use it at 100% scaling. It will be cheaper and less taxing on your GPU and consume less power.

That's what I meant with getting thoughts unstuck - thanks for your input!

I find my LG C1 48" 4K OLED display is excellent for most things. Great for Mixbus 32C and movies etc. I run desktop scaling at 150%. For daily desktop use I just use a 27" 4K monitor. My lowly GTX 970 runs it quite happily at 60Hz even with another 4K monitor running at the same time. I can't imagine higher refresh rates would be even noticable, maybe for gaming?
Any higher resolution would only be useful for a much larger screen IMO.

Use DisplayPort, this issue affects HDMI only.
I am using AMD GPUs since years under Linux with various monitors. I never had a problem with various monitors, which was caused by the AMD GPU or AMD Linux driver. It works even better than in windows.

For my dedicated audio workstation I am using 2 monitors I bought at Goodwill for $30.
It's a shame they don't sell old tube preamps there...
