What makes a delta-44 better then the audiophile 24/96?
The delta 44 has no digital I/O. Where is digital I/O for?
Can I connect a eletr. piano with midi output, to these audio cards?

what kind of digital IO is it ?
if it is MIDI, yes you can do what you are suggesting. On the RME Multiface II, you have a MIDI in and out. If you look again at the pictures of my studio, you will see the MIDI cable plugged to the MIDI in (I don't use MIDI out because I don't want to use the piano's builtin sounds for anything! but in principle, I could send MIDI events from my PC to the piano through the MIDI out of the RME multiface and it would trigger the piano sounds inside the piano).
Now, it could be another kind of digital IO (SPDIF, etc).

thanks for the advice... I need to know more about firewire... I don't think my pc supports it yet.. and firewire seems to be (to) expensive.thorgal wrote:you may want to read about it before you follow the store's recommendation. If you want to invest a bit of money, make sure you have decent preamps (whether external or builtin). I don't know about the device you suggest but read about it before anything else. Firewire is a good choice though.
My budget is about 100-200 euro
advice is welcome
how about a PCI card ? the M-Audio Delta 1010 is quite nice. I had the light version (1010LT) that I sold on eBay for 130 euros a year ago. Too many cables to fiddle around with, it was messy. The non LT version has a breakout box, which is way cleaner. It also has builtin preamps on the mic inputs and the linux app envy24control is managing this device quite nicely. It is not as versatile as the RME HDSP but you can have a lot of fun with it nonetheless.

edit: It is in The netherlands 209 , but maybe I can import it from Germany for 179 or so...
But this card doesn't have phantom power is it?
And does those preamps also work for guitar?
