Synth with Ardour on Fedora

Post by crustypants »

Hi forum,

Thinking of having a go with some synth plugins on Ardour and try my hand at making a tune with one. Does anyone know a good one to start out with? Odin looked good?

Also, does anyone know where to get builds/RPMs of them for Fedora?

Everyone and their mother usually recommend SurgeXT and Vaporizer2, which has just released v3.4.0 with native LV2 support.

Edit: I read right over the Fedora question. I'm using Fedora Kinoite and I get everything from Flatpak. Works fine.

Not a Fedora or Ardour user currently, but since you are intending to use the plugins in Ardour, rather than as stand-alone synths (a different matter), generally they don't need to be built for a specific distro. Many of these are probably in Fedora Jam pro audio repositories somewhere, or available from the developer, but if not, they can be built following the instructions for each. Post-build, you need to be careful to put them in the folders/files where Ardour expects to find them, and then tell Ardour to re-scan for them.

Simple synths: Ob-Xd and NoizeMaker
Complete/advanced synths: ZynAddSubFx, Surge XT and Vitalium

Sorry, I don't know if they are packaged for Fedora..

Most synths are in the main fedora repo. Otherwise add the ycollet copr repo https://copr.fedorainfracloud.org/coprs ... t/audinux/
