Hello from Germany / Frankurt

Post by beate »

Hello, i am Beate from Germany, notably from the surrounding of Frankfurt.

Almost an elderly Lady, with a few decades of Unix/BSD/Linux usage and administration. And i still hate configuring ALSA ... In the past i have usually been lazy and did recordings either with my Zoom R8 or with Audacity.

I am also playing bass in a few projects and can solder a bit in tube amps...

My concern here is using Linux as a DAW. Especially on older hardware with all its limitations, and maybe using "exotic" Linuxens like Devuan or even Alpine.

My current project is actually setting up an Alpine based DAW (Ardour + Jack + zita-ajbridge, no dbus and no other sound demon installed) and that is everything but working out of the box, to use with the USB interfaces of two small mixing consoles.
I.e, a very lightweight setup on old hardware.

If there is interest i can describe what i have achieved up to now.

best wishes

Beate

That sounds very familiar to me, similar approach here with Slackware, i'm interested in your system.

Hi, and welcome.
I run devuan for similar reasons, although I work almost entirely 'in' the box, with just hardware keyboard and controllers.
