Top 10
I think it's time we all had a little fun. So, I thought I'd start a thread where we can list our personal Top 10 favorite bands. I'm thinking top 10 because we could probably all name a ton of bands or artists that we like, but that's easy, so I think the top 10 will make it more challenging.
Top 10 in no particular order:
1. Ramallah
2. Hank III
3. Blood for Blood
4. William Elliott Whitmore
5. Machine Head
6. Between the Buried and ME
7. Misery Signals
8. Hank Williams Sr.
9. All That Remains
10. Terror
Yeah, I listen to a lot of heavy music maybe that's what keeps me mellow. I listen to a lot of other genres and I have my favorites, but choosing the "I would grab this over this if I were going for a drive or mowing the lawn" is the approach I took at choosing mine.
So, what's everyone else's top 10?

Re: Top 10
1. Steve Roach
2. Young American Primitive
3. Saafi Brothers
4. Lvxus
5. stuff my friends and people on the Internet made.
In fact, I should put #5 at #1, since most of it is what I listen to.
Also, I listen to mod music.
But in general, I listen very little music.

Re: Top 10
It fluctuates all of the time, and my favorite artists are not necessarily those that I can listen to most often (because their stuff demands my full attention). In no particular order:
Legendary Pink Dots
Bowie
Pink Floyd
The Beatles
Gary Numan
Tangerine Dream
Skinny Puppy
The Virgin Prunes
The Sisters of Mercy
Roxy Music

Re: Top 10
1. Slint
Legendary band, Spiderland was a of a big influence on the indie scene and spawned several new subgenres (Slint are considered the godfathers of post-rock and math-rock)
2. Karate
This song is from their debut album. I own practically every single, EP, album and split of this amazing band.
3. Dinosaur Jr
Kracked from their album You're Living All Over Me. I hate conventional solos, but I totally, totally love J Mascis' style.
4. Sebadoh/Sentridoh/Lou Barlow
What an amazing song, for me Lou Barlow is the best contemporary songwriter and maybe even the best songwriter ever. I quit collecting all the Sebadoh related stuff a while ago, it's simply too much. I do own some pretty rare collectibles. I have two tattoos that are Barlow designs.
5. Chavez
I cherish my Chavez shirt. They've been to the Netherlands only once. And I saw them. All my friends are jealous.
6. Juliana Hatfield
Undoubtedly, easily and by far the best female songwriter of all time. Period.
7. Blonde Redhead
The song Melody from their Misery is a Butterfly album. Tears well up in my eyes as soon as I hear this song, it is of exquisite beauty. And what an amazing band live. I've cried during gigs, I have travelled hundreds of miles to see them play. And with my own band we have had the honour to open for them twice.
8. Spoon
This is not the official video of a Spoon song and not one of their best songs either (for me that's Fitted Shirt, couldn't find a better quality vid) but it's just so cute and feelgood.
9. The Lemonheads
Another great contemporary songwriter (Evan Dando that is). What a talent that guy has, what a voice. Lemonheads gigs take at least half an hour before it gets good, then Dando's head clears up from whatever inebriated him.
10. Buffalo Tom
Another epic from the 90ies. This is from their debut album, if I got tinnitus from this album playing on my walkman then it sure was worth it.
I could go one with like another 40 bands but I'll spare you that. Hope it becomes a wee bit clear that I'm an ardent music lover and that I don't really like conventional, mainstream music.

Re: Top 10
I'd rather let a computer compile this kind of thing for me.
According to last.fm, these are my top ten most played artists:
Stereolab
Boards of Canada
Tortoise
坂本龍 (Ryuichi Sakamoto)
The Beatles
Aphex Twin
Sigur Rós
Pavement
Amon Tobin
Art Blakey & The Jazz Messengers
That doesn't say a lot about what I really listen though.

Re: Top 10
Yeah, Sublime! I recall vividly standing in line at de Melkweg (venue in Amsterdam) to see them play when it was announced the concert was cancelled. That was a really weird and sad moment.
Re: Top 10
Hmm, my Top 10 could be:

there is so much good music, i believe what really characterizes it for me is if an artist is able to introduce you to a genre that's been new for you
I wasn't into Dubstep until I heard some Tracks by Mt Eden a few weeks ago; i don't know what you think about Dubstep but you can download some tracks and listen to it, I don't know him, but I really like what he does ^^
- Daft Punk
- Seeed
- Fall Out Boy
- Rage Against The Machine
- Irie Revoltes
- Rainer Von Vielen
- Parov Stelar
- Reel Big Fish
- Pendulum
- Foo Fighters

Re: Top 10
Captain Beefheart (from Trout Mask forward)
The Velvet Underground (first 3 albums)
anything by Pierre Boulez
anything by Elliott Carter
Muddy Waters
Charley Patton
Leadbelly
John Coltrane
Jelly Roll Morton
Charles Mingus
Tomorrow's list will be somewhat different. It will include Ornette Coleman, Michael Jackson, The Beatles, Zakir Hussein, Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, and anything by Om Kholsoom. It will probably also include Paul Lansky and King Sunny Ade.

Re: Top 10
@Saftpackl, oh yeah, Foo Fighters! Amazing band, just like anything related (Nirvana of course, but also Scream, Wool and Grohl's sideprojects) And if you like Reel Big Fish then you should really check out Sublime. I'm not really into dubstep, we do spin some tunes though with our DJ Team, but those are mainly classics like Rusko, Skream and Benga.
