patchage segfault

Post by retnev »

Just cannot get patchage to work anymore on debian

I get this font issue it seems.

Code: Select all

 $] patchage
Loading UI file /usr/share/patchage/patchage.ui

(patchage:1776543): Gdk-WARNING **: 08:25:02.240: gdk_window_set_icon_list: icons too large
Loading configuration from /home/johndoe/.config/patchagerc
warning: unknown configuration key `show_messages'
warning: unknown configuration key `messages_height'
Segmentation fault

Anyone got a fix for this ?

@retnev

Could you move your config file (/home/johndoe/.config/patchagerc) aside and see if that helps?

That was the first thing I tried.
Doesnt make any difference.
I use MX (Debian). Patchage gave this error since MX19 and we are now at MX21 and still no resolution.

I'm running on AVL-MX 21.3, and don't even have patchage available in my repos. There is another package, patchance, which advertises itself as an alternative:

https://github.com/Houston4444/Patchance

Have you tried reporting the issue to the patchage Github repo?

You saved my life with the "patchance" suggestion.
It boots up and indeed seems like an alternative of patchage but it actually boots up and is a jack routing app as you say !
Fantastic !

I will try it out and cross my fingers that it will work as well as patchage (which refuses to work for 2 years now on MX)

It routes all the Jack IO but doesnt show the NON-Jack Midi which Patchage shows.
Never the less, it will help with Jack routings until I get patchage up and running.

And yes I did contact the developer of patchage a year or so ago, did answer, but never resolved the problem.

I'm glad my patchance suggestion got you some traction.

Anyone else have a suggestion on the "icons too large" error with patchage.
I tried my best with patchance, but there are python issues with it that refuses to activate midi routing and the solution involves too convoluted and buggy python junk.
I know patchage does this with impunity.

Patchance is superior in many aspects, but patchage is simply way better with midi, so I am back where I started.
Please just read my initial post after this, which shows the error.

I only need to remove the font error to get it to work.
