ToneX pedal - as an interface (works sort of)

I bought a ToneX pedal with the hope, that I could plug it in and it would just work. Well it sort of does. When I plug it in, I see in the Control Panel, that there is a new output device "Digital Output (S/PDIF) ToneX" and two new input devices "Digital Input (S/PDIF) ToneX" and "Microphone ToneX". (I am just concerned about the input and haven't tested the output)
So what's the problem ? There is no sound. I looked around with alsamixer (pavucontrol) but there was nothing to configure. I tried to set the input channels to "RECORD" but to no avail. I had no idea what else to try, so I figured I might check out, if ToneX works with my old macOS 10.13 laptop at all. It does, I didn't have to install any additional software. Recording works nicely in Garageband.
Now comes the funny part, when I plugged the cable back into my Linux machine, there was suddenly sound. That lasted until I rebooted. I can only get sound, if I unplug the USB cable from Linux, plug it into macOS (no Garageband needed), and then back into Linux. So macOS must be doing something better, setting up the ToneX. Is this a know problem with USB interfaces, and is there a solution ?
The Linuxes I used are a current Manjaro (kernel 5.15.133-1) and an Ubuntu 22.04.3 LTS.

Hi, this may need the windows reaper running in a recent wine-staging in the AVLinux distro. You might have to download the IK Program Manager tool to install their windows asio driver for Tonex from your IK account. This manager tool worked for me recently with IK's Mixbox installation.
AVLinux comes with wineasio pre-installed, could be an important bonus for your needs. In your daw, or Tonex standalone,
you would pick wineasio as the audio device.
I have a much much simpler IK iRig HD 2 interface, that appears in qjackctl, and works fine.
Hope this helps.

I'll have to check out AVLinux some time, sounds interesting, thanks for the tip. But I really don't want to reboot into a different Linux to plink around on my guitar, while watching a stream or so

I doubt many ToneX owners just 'plink around'
AVLinux can run as a live dvd, if you choose it from the 'early-boot-menu.
I've been plinking around with the free plugin version, so I don't feel like such an ancient dinosaur. Even managed to load some amps
