Here's a breakdown of my ten BandCamp 'albums' . Some are colated with focussed content. Each runs three or more hours. Aside from the title songs, the order is only loosely sequential, even if I spent some hours in deliberations* If a song is boring in the first 30 seconds, skip to the next one, as it will be quite different in many cases. etc etc

https://franklincheney.bandcamp.com/

For kid's: Mesonic Escapade

War/Conflict: The Secret Escape Of Wars

For personal hard times: Hailing On All Frequencies

For peaceful introspection/distraction: Never The Same Again

The spiritual journeys: Twelfth Mile Of The Unborn

Pondering things rarely heard: Hearing Things

Energetic synth tunes: A Little Deeper Than It Looks

Peaceful collections for the good moments ahead:

Carbon In The Sky

Almost Home

Along The River Trail

Hope you find some worth hearing twice! The songs are available as singles on Spotify, Youtube, and the many sites served by the Distrokid music distribution service.

  • When I had gathered each album's songs into individual folders, I created a folder named 'loaded', and as each song was processed, I moved the .wav file into that folder, reducing confusion as the proccess went forward, with fewer and fewer options to consider. And I kept smplayer handy to refresh my memory and opinions about a sensible order.
    Cheers

That's a massive amount of audio! Listening to all that takes some planning :) I may put on an album tonight while playing The Talos Principle...

For how long have you worked on those albums? Decades?

Did some poking around in the cranial cobwebs. I found zynaddsubfx either in a 'The Linux Journal' magazine article,
or maybe first from kvraudio.com. One of my first KVR chronicled posts was on Wed Jan 03, 2007 10:06 pm, was in a zyn topic.
But I think they lost a couple years, because I joined there in 2004. Folderol also posted in that thread! Synth 1 arrived in 2002,
and Oatmeal in 2006, both of which I've used in many songs, and still do. Caldera linux, released in 1997 was my first distro,
and when fst/wine arrived in the great Suse based Jacklab distro, I could use them and many other windows vsts in linux,
and windows OS began receding into a very low tide.

Someone  once said, 'don't let the record button assume room temperature'. Heeding that advice, I record my sessions and creations,
name them with some detail, and get back to them when in edit mode. Which arrived unannounced at 2AM this morning, so I worked on a new song for a couple of hours, the rough drafts from earlier this year. But I have still have eight more albums titled, and waiting for time to jockey the songs around a bit, maybe cut some dogs. Will try to get a new one out for friday night.

I googled The Talos Principal, looks like a very fun/challenging game. I like the Amiga pinball games, and Coco 3 Tetris, but need to have a peak a couple decades into the future
Cheers

Album 11 is now up at Bandcamp, 'Absence Of Light'.

https://franklincheney.bandcamp.com/

Not a cheery album theme, and the music is along the lines of
'Hailing On All Frequencies', and 'The Secret Escape of Wars'.
Seventeen instrumental electronic/acoustic songs, running a bit over 3 hours.

Reviewing the songs during uploads, I'm freshly amazed at, and grateful for,
the wonderful instrument, plugin, DAW, and sound creators who make modern
music production possible and affordable. As well as the many people helping and
teaching what they have learned. It really is a golden age.
Cheers

I put on "A Little Deeper Than It Looks" and it does work as a Talos soundtrack.

I do think most tracks go on for much too long though. Reminds me a bit of Pete Namlook and his collaborative albums (with Biosphere, Plastikman, Higher Intelligence Agency). At their cores, some really good tracks and enjoyable auditive experiences, but marred by too much repetition over an excessive period of time.

Myself, if having (overindulgently) padded a track's length by repetitions with only a little bit of variation, I often start removing again every part which can be removed, until I feel the result starts to suffer from brevity. The core that remains will be all the more enjoyable, imo.

But take that as you will. Pete Namlook was a rather succesful artist, whereas I score like two listeners a month :)

Hi, and thanks for sharing your listening venture, I hope you won an extra level or two! I think a lot of people
might share your opinions on length and repetition, but they do serve a purpose, as one of my hopes is to
provide a wide range of background music, in a wide range of voicings, to benefit a wide range of moods.
Not being constrained to commercial 'Top 40' time limited attention spans, my hope is that someone having a rough day (or life),
can put on a few songs chosen from many, to change the moments outlook. And those who buy or record some for personal use,
can still easily shorten them using Audacity, to fit x,y, or z. Not that many in the streaming sector have edited a song

I do have over a hundred songs between 4 and 10 minutes in duration over at Spotify, and the boss has given me permission
to package them in CD sized releases. Or instead of a Greatest Hits release, a Smallest Bits collection?

There are so many people caught up in grave situations, wars, tragedies, personal battles, medical calamities...
I think most musicians would be delighted if their efforts provide a few people even a subtle temporary
moment of peace. And on the other extreme, music can also be a fun part of celebrations, and motivate the quest
for the daily victories that keep us going.

I have some 4 minute commercial artist favorites that I've smoothly pasted to themselves, to create personal use 20 minute
practice versions, a bit more natural for my practice, than relying on loop-mode in music players.

You might like the Mesonic Escapade album as a game backdrop. Nothing dark or dreary in the audio shadows.
Thanks for sharing your honest views!

Spotify has a handy playlist option to sort by duration, so all the short songs pop up first, and if a long slumber-ready or
practice-track piece is desired, scroll to the end of the list. In my case, there will be 29 songs between 28 and 49 minutes in length,
and 118 songs between 3 and 10 minutes, and a couple hundred in between.

The linux Spotify client has been getting updated lately, and works very well here in AVLinux,
among others.
Cheers

Hi @glowrak guy

Congratulations on your impressive body of work! You must not sleep well between either working on music or thinking up your next composition or Plugin combination!

I can't do a deep dive now but just quietly listening as I type, when the late autumn and winter weather drives me indoors I will look forward to a glowrak soundtrack to keep the winter blues away!

Ho-hum serious lack of free time these days :(
I'll get around to it eventually!

The twelfth BandCamp album is out, 'Enduro', 19 songs, relating to energy and endurance, in one form or another.
Not supposed to work when on vacation, so I played music while uploading the songs. Hope you find some you like!

I do have some sleep issues, but get to see things others miss, at times. Recently on mini vacation, 3 AM, a massive squall line came in from 'the graveyard of the pacific', blasting horizontal rain one minute, and torrents of vertical downpour the next. All the while, a Heron was calmly standing atop an old cannery pillar, getting drenched, but taking it all in like a sun bath 8) I really appreciate your encouraging words! Thanks much.

edit...have no idea how this got here, as I was not on this topic when the idea to mention this popped up.
Anyway, I put it in the 'How easy is BandCamp' topic as intended'.

(To be fair, in hunting season, the guys all are well behind me, knowing how good my aim is  )

Needing to tidy up and colate and remember what's what etc, I discovered how to download
my uploads. (yeah, i never was the shawpist tool in the shed :( )
Anyway, if needed,
Got to the album/song page, and switch from public tp private
Go to the pricing area, and set it at zero.
Go to the download dialog, choose your desired format, and hope Aunt Susie sends candy.

This is also an extra way to modify your collection into some useful formats, without
using typical audio conversion tools.

When the candy arrives, reset the price and public status, and re-save your submission.
I did that drill with my albums for an extra back-up drive.
Cheers
