Scarlett Mix CXontrol Can I Install?

Hi, new here.
I have a focusrite 18i6 Gen 1 that suddenly stopped outputting sound. It records input well, but there is no sound on the outputs or the headphones.
In looking online it seems this is a common issue, and fix is resetting the unit. Which from what I am seeing can only be done through the Mix Control software. I have downloaded that, but have zero clue how to install it, or if it can be installed.
Is there a way to do so that doesn't require writing code?
I am running Mate, but am unsure how to see which version it is, but it has only been installed for 4 months or so, roughly.
TIA for any help, and I beg patience. When you start asking me questions I'm going to sound like an idjit.

@gitlvr

I haven't tried very hard to get Scarlett MixControl working. Instead, I am successfully using Robin Gareus' scarlett-mixer with my gen 1 18i20:

Tres.

Sweet! I saw that in another thread here and was considering it.
But I think my interface died the death. I put it on two other machines. It worked for a while, then the output stopped working again. I can kind of smell hot electronics , but that could just be because it was warmed up.
It's an old interface, and was given to me second hand. I got probably 18 months to 2 years use out of it, so not complaining.
I have fallen back to my Lexicon Alpha, which was the first interface I had. It's basic, no frills, but it just keeps chugging along.
I'll use that until I can pick up a new interface.
Thanks for the reply and help.

Replying to myself:

@x42 I like the functionality just fine, but cannot figure out from the source how to boost the scaling on a HiDPI display: the robtk bits don't seem to support reading a scaling factor from environment variables in the way that GTK / Qt do.

Can you please enlighten these old eyes?

Tres,
