Inspired by folderol's story, and the "what are you currently listening to" thread, I'm curious about what my fellow linuxmusicians may be reading.
I'm reading Ilium by Dan Simmons (sf).

Fiddling with sequencers does not evolve into music necessarily and Mac users have smelly feet and guzzle little children.
Raising Steam
Terry Pratchett
I've just finished reading everything I can find by Erle Stanley Gardner (except the Cool and Lam stories because I don't care for them so much). And now I'm almost at the end of Leading the Rebellion by this guy https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KtU9EFD-1Sg
Linux for dummies.
Its a good book, but I probably should have bought it years ago, when I started using Linux.
It talks about Linux in general, and more specific about Ubuntu and OpenSUSE.
The chapters about installing Linux I skipped.

Read the f*§$ manual - yeah, I told that maybe some thousand times to the users but I ve never did myself...
I don't like to read manuals either. The only one I really made an effort to learn was the Impulse Tracker manual.
So you did read a manual after all!
"Money for nothing", by P.G. Wodehouse. A real model of English humor, which I really enjoy, although this is not one of his best, imo...
(Fun fact: Lemmy Kilmister from Motorhead read Wodehouse non-stop... )
Currently Lem: Invincible
I really like Lems stories, i'read read his stories more than once, Invincible is my favorite, and generally, one of the best science fiction stories of all times, i think. I don't know, why there is no film based on this story.

Byung-Chul Han - Non-things: Upheaval in the Lifeworld
Highly recommended to everyone who struggles with today's digitalized life.
Seems an interesting book. I don't so much struggle with, but rather have a large disdain for, digitalised life. Ironic isn't it, posting that on an internet forum? Although I'm here for the sharing of knowledge more than anything else.

I've only read a handful of pre-eighties novels. There may be so many masterpieces I'll never be aware of, let alone read. Especially at my current snail's pace of reading. I've advanced maybe 30 pages in Ilium in the last three weeks.
I like internet forums and mailing lists, they are still text-based and allow for deeper discussions. I've met many wonderful people here and I can even say some authentic friends, even if I never physically met them.
Sadly, in the future forums like these will be rarer because of generative AI. Who can assure you that you are speaking with a real person now that things like ChatGPT are around? Reading long posts has become a risk, because it could be grammatically-correct nonsense generated by a machine, and this could degrade discussions.
To be clear: my disdain is reserved mostly for facebook, twitter and their ilk. And for people who have their mobile phones in hand all day.
