I have a graphical pci express slot on my mobo.
I'll get details later on this but there was a conflict between that and the card installed.
Would there be a way of finding out what card I can use for 64Studio, my preferred choice?
Cheers.

Re: Hardware Question
As a rule of thumb nVidia or Intel graphics are best for use with Linux. (ATI's Linux support is generally uneven.)Chipfryer wrote:I have a graphical pci express slot on my mobo.

Beyond that, a fanless (silent) graphics card (and a quiet case sporting large fans, sound dampened panels, and shock-mounted drives) is a good choice for a DAW.
Can you list specs of your hardware so folks can offer practical & affordable recommendations?
In Terminal type:
sudo lshw
...then copy & post the Terminal output in this thread.

Re: Hardware Question
Wait a minute. There's a conflict between your 'board's on-board graphics and a display card which you've installed in a slot? Did turn off the internal graphics in your 'board's BIOS before installing the slotted card?Chipfryer wrote:I have a graphical pci express slot on my mobo.

Unfortunately the sudo lshw readout didn't yield the model number of your Gigabyte board but it's likely one of the K8 series. If you open your machine up and look at its mainboard you'll see the 'board's model # prominently displayed.
Please write it down then go here...
http://www.giga-byte.ca/Products/Mother ... fault.aspx
...and under 'Product Search' click the drop-down menu on the left and select GA-K8xxx. Next click the right-hand menu and choose your motherboard and post a link so that we can peruse its manual and Google about for references re its use with Linux.
Speaking of which...
