Carla xruns with Sweetcase vst3 plugin via yabridge

Post by gabtram »

Hi to all,

to have a perfect working machine, having also the power to bridge some vst3 plugin in arch i installed yabridge.
It works and it is very powerfull with wine.
I think the best is always to use lv2 plugins and only linux plugins but rarely there some vst3 that are not equals.
Is the case of sweetcase https://noiseash.com/sweetcase-vintage-electric-piano/ or Vocal king https://plugins4free.com/plugin/2507/

I discovered that:
1) i can use with carla and yabridge only vst3 in 64bit and not x86. Here https://github.com/robbert-vdh/yabridge there some infos but can't understand how to enalbe also x86 plugins to work.
2) Carla don't read vocal king for example and i have to skip the loading.
3) i can't use my external keyboard with sweetcase loaded via yabridge, and can't underatand why! Have i to simulate something via wine? Don't know

These are my Carla errors.

Have you some ideas?
Thanks!

Why do you use Carla and Yabridge? Yabridge is meant for using WinVST's in Linux, which is called "bridging". But if I'm not mistaken then Carla is bridging software too. Why don't you just use only one of the two...?

Hi, I've found that the Reaper daw offers the best 32 bit windows plugin support, as well as the most accurate general plugin scanning, and I always have both the linux and windows Reaper versions installed, and version 6.22 or newer of wine-staging, because some things require or work better in one Reaper or the other. I use the 32 bit Proteus VX plugin quite often. The great Yoshimi linux synth can make great E-Piano sounds utilizing it's 16 layers capability, and in the 'Folderol Collection' presets, there are some nice ones to start with, as well as several vocal pads. Layering in Yoshimi just requires a few clicks to open new layers, choose sounds, select a midi channel, or omni for all channels.

There is a Reaper linux forum, with several successful Arch linux users:

Sorry for the late reply, it's been a busy busy season...
Keeping in mind that the skill of the developers, and their preset designers, is more important than the numeric bits, there are jewels in those mentioned below that I regularly use and explore. Along with plenty of 64 bit tools. Time is tight, and having started with, and so being more familiar with many 32 bit tools than the shiny new ones, I often recognize a starting point when the Muse whispers, and go from there, most songs now use both 32 and 64 bit plugins.

I use many from plugin collections by UGO, AlgoMusic, HG Fortune, TAL, Max Synths, Superwave, Krakli, Psychic Modulation, Xoxos, Angular Momentum, DVS, DSK, Kjaerhaus Classics, Poulin, LePou, Ignite, and some older Cakewalk and AIR plugins.

Singles:
CMFuzz
Genesis CM
Chimera
Rhino CM
Wusikstation V 5
Superwave P8
MiniMogueLuxus
EVM Ultrasonique and Occam
Big Tick's Angelina
Tone2 Firebird
ProteusVX
Glaceverb
Loomer Cumulous
Oatmeal
Vera Kinter's Art Pyrite and Golden Aset

The Tone2 dev communicates very well in related kvr and similar forum topics, and many of his product
demos work in my linux, and, should some thunder-money strike, there are a few I would consider
to purchase. But a Boss ME 90 hardware will probably win out in the Santa Sweepstakes, unless
NI greatly bumps up the content in their November holiday Komplete upgrade sale.

The Atari hardware midi is still more stable than most modern counterparts, and a few composers still
rely on it.

Hi!
And really thanks for your response.
Thanks for the list f plugin.
I passed two month full i can't dedicate to my arch music workstatiomn.
Today i tried to copy the vocal king vst3 to mu /usr/lib/vst3 directory...but Carla bon't recognize it.
In general i rtried to use yabridge to port vst3 plugins for linux.
Maybe i have to try to test them also with a daw and not simply with Carla.
But before to install the DAW (ardour and zrythm for the moment) i'd like to resolve xruns issue adjusting the cpu scale governing and pipewire latency with the kernel patchset.

For now i'm starting to record my podcast and this is the cause i made some tests with vocal king. Cause i never find something similar in lv2 format. I need something to record voice for podcast and it's not so easy.

Probably the closest to Vocal King is master_me: https://github.com/trummerschlunk/master_me

Hi, thaks for your suggestion.
I tried this great plugin with carla.
So with my focusirte if i'm using it live and register in audacity (with a patch route to the audacity controller) i register the voice and it have great components but i note some glitching in my voice..same thing with an instrument.
If i register my voice in audacity and the apply some changes with the plugin directly in audacity i have no glitching.
I thinked it was something about dust on my phone, but it's strange. Or maybe i have to set the scaling governor to performance cause the cpu have to work with priority on music.
I'm studying this https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/CPU_fr ... ng_drivers but it's not simple.

Thanks!

You're welcome! You might want to look at Ardour for recording and allow for your user to set the CPU DMA latency: https://wiki.linuxaudio.org/wiki/system ... _interface
Doing it this way you don't have to fiddle with scaling drivers. Setting your CPU scaling governor to performance is still recommended which is also mentioned in that wiki article: https://wiki.linuxaudio.org/wiki/system ... cy_scaling
