Frontier Designs Tranzport

Post by Scot Solida »

I've been banging my head on the wall over this one. I have a Frontier Designs Tranzport and am trying to get it to work with Ardour in Ubuntu Studio 9.10. It would seem that the instructions in the Ardour manual are out-of-date and no longer apply. Unfortunately I can't seem to find a solution... I've seen a couple of approaches online, but none have worked for my system. Every time I try to check "Tranzport" in the Control Surfaces menu, I get an error telling me that it can't be initialized. Anyone else have this problem and solved it? I'd really like to get it going. Tranzport is a life-saver in a one-man studio.

I don't own one of these but here my suggestions:

1. Try upgrading ardour to 2.8.7 from Philip Johnson's PPA
2. Search / ask in the ardour forum. There are threads on this.
3. Ask for help in IRC. You can enter from ardour. Help -> Chat.

It could be that you need to get the last driver from the git repo
at teklibre.com, then apply a patch to the ardour sources and build it.

If you have to build ardour, this will save you some time:

sudo apt-get install libtool autotools-dev
sudo apt-get build-dep ardour

This will solve most, if not all, development libraries that
ardour needs to be built.

I know the Tranzport works because dtaht (the guy who programmed the driver)
once told that he was controlling ardour from a hammock !

Cheers! Pablo

Thanks Pablo, I will do that! (but only I after I finish my current project. I don't want to build a new version of Ardour and screw up the song I am working on)
