escape velocity -- instrumental melodic tech death metal

Post by modusjonens »

A short melodic tech-deathy track. Pushing my own limits at 250bpm, so things get a lil sloppy at times.

Listen to escape velocity by modusjonens on #SoundCloud https://soundcloud.com/modusjonens/escape-velocity

  • Hydrogen for drums
  • Ardour 7.1.0 as DAW

Thanks for listening! 🤘

Hahaa, that's pretty rad, and nice playing. Favorite moment: bass playing alone, then that guitar & drums entry. Personally, I'd be curious to try a half time on drums, like a stompy 4/4 plus glitch beats or something, bring out the polyrhythm, I'd have to try it out editing. Also great dramatic arc, slowly going from mild excess to full excess, I can dig that :)

some of my stuff is ending up here https://alooshu.byethost17.com and here https://clyp.it/user/i4p5dng1 , and you can love me at https://liberapay.com/aloo_shu

Very nice riffing, I only listen to a bit of tech now and then, but I liked this. The snare is a bit loud, but otherwise very nice!

I make music as Tenaba! Bandcamp

That riffing was tight! No sloppyness I could detect (or maybe I'm so used to mine that I didn't notice it  )
The only thing a bit more lackluster IMHO may be drums: what drumkit did you use in Hydrogen?

That's a cool suggestion! It could definitely help extend the piece, that's for sure.

Yeah, it definitely is. I happen to like this snare sample a lot, so it ended up pretty loud in the mix. Thanks!

I'm more or less using the Death Metal kit in Hydrogen. I don't tend to vary velocity much, so if it sounds robotic, I wouldn't be terribly surprised.

What kit(s) do you like?

I usually don't use the Hydrogen drumkits as they are, but the Hydrogen drumkits that actually drive a Drumgizmo instance. There's drumkits for different Drumgizmo kits around. I personally use the Muldjord kit, which is great for metal, but I know the Aasimonster and CrocellKit are popular choices too: maybe Aasimonster would be a better fit for the genre. They're all a PITA to mix, though, and if you've heard my tracks you know drums are always the worst part so I'm not sure I'm really qualified to give suggestions in that regard
