Carla

Post by Geincaz »

Hello

I have very basic questions to Carla.

I have in my desktop PC the following devices:

  1. PC-Speaker
  2. Microphone
  3. Zoom-programme

This are the settings of Carla:

I make this:
Engine -> start
Then I get this:

Question a)
So am I right, that the input Box is my microphone and the output Box is my PC-Speaker?

Question b)

I do not find a Box with the name Zoom, although I have Zoom open.
I want that the sound of my Mic goes to Zoom. How can I implement this?

Would appreciate some Help. Thank you.

I guess it's because

  1. Carla is an audio plugin host and Zoom is not an audio plugin.
  2. Using Pulseaudio as audio driver lets Carla show up as a playback/recording device in Pavucontrol, but Carla a.f.a.i.k. cannot be used as Pulseaudio traffic controller the way you can use it with Jack in multi client mode.*

*Edit: which in particular means that the in-, output ports you're seeing in the Carla patchbay window are simply the in-, output ports that Carla presents to Pulseaudio, and are not your system's ins and outs. So the answer question a) is: No.

Can't you simply connect mic to Zoom in Pavucontrol? Which would be the answer to question b).

Thank you. How can I install Jack in Debian?

I have tried this:

  1. Instaled Jackd
  2. Yes, real-time processing priority is activated

Code: Select all

$ jackd --version
jackdmp version 1.9.12 tmpdir /dev/shm protocol 8

Configuration of Carla:

But when I start the engine in Carla:

That's not exactly what I want. Of course I want let the sound through a plugin first.

I have tried this:

  1. Instaled Jackd
    But when I start the engine in Carla:

That's because jack's not running, most likely. It's advisable to use qjackctl to start, and control jack and its connections.

But, if Zoom does not support Jack as audio device, maybe it's better to forget jack, run Carla in Pulseaudio mode, and use pavucontrol for your routing somehow.

You can use Jack, but then you'll also need to use pulseaudio-module-jack, route Carla's output to Pulseaudio-jack-source, and set the appropriate recording device in Zoom to pulseaudio.

Why do you want to use Carla with Zoom at all? Zoom worked fine with just PulseAudio last time I used it.
